why mecha games peaked on PS2, but it's been a massive nosedive in quality afterwards?

Partly the drought of licensed games. Partly that devs put more money and time into development so no one wants to take risks. The HD era was when every game really started looking and playing the same. Mecha is mostly an indie game scene now.

How huge was SEED back in the early 2000s? I only know that it was fucking huge in Japan that the main love interest of the MC won every best anime girl of the year for many years and that SEED was going to be the last Gundam series.

It was supposed to be the new UC and Bandai tried very, very hard to make it so. 2 full anime series, an ona, an entire manga side franchise, multiple games, tons of kits, etc. They pushed it so hard that it eventually led to burnout. The final nail in the coffin was when one of the kits, I think the PG Strike Freedom, massively undersold. Bandai then moved onto 00 and later started re-milking the UC cashcow with Unicorn.

At the very least, English asia releases help me get modern mecha games, it was the only way I was able to play GB3 and SWRV and X, also how far is the Gihren's greed translation? Last time I checked it was just the OYW and a lot of tge info text was untranslated

Fuckuda is a hack and they scrapped and restarted the movie multiple times. Even the fight scenes were getting rearranged and remade just before the release.

It's still yuge in Japan and China. Go to to pretty much any SNEED clip on Youtube, be it from the anime or game or OST and vast majority of comments will be in Japanese. The few English comments you do come across will almost always be negative and shitting on SNEED while 100% of Japanese ones will be positive.

All the passion and talent are gone after the PS2 era, it never got better after PS3 and beyond. Sunrise and Bamco basically has full control on all mecha IP's and yet suck at doing anything remotely good with them. Even their anime is on a decline.
