Never understood this argument considering games have artists working on them that create amazing looking characters and environments

The irony is that movies were not considered art for the longest time.

Games must sacrifice art for entertainment.

Video games will never be art and that's a good thing. I'm not insecure about just enjoying things for what they are rather than pretending they're actually super deep to look mature.

Did Doppo inspire Sagat's design in Street Fighter, or did Sagat inspire Doppo?

Visuals, writing and music are not integral parts of a video game, video games are art because of game design alone and also all art is entertainment.

Video games shouldn't be movies; whether they're art or not is a different matter and is up to each individual to decide.

For me the most interesting thing is when they try to hype books as the ultimate content medium for highbrow consumers.

Like bitch, that tells me you haven't read a single book in your life. You CAN'T look at the book market right now and not see the MOUNTAINS of shit that get released each year.

Like, even the most jaded/v/ user can look at the "Top 10 games of the year" and at least understand why people like them, but with books? All the top 10s of every genre is filled to the brim with garbage.

Never let women your hobbies bros, it's a death sentence for quality.

I just read webnovels or old books these days.
No idea what comes out on paper.

Games are fundamentally toys meant to be beaten. Not art and you all know it.

I changed my mind on this recently. The anons presenting the argument that the game mechanics of Monopoly could be used to comment on our society was what convinced me on the fact that games, including video games, can be art.
Something like a military drone operator game with some story elements in there comes to mind as a possible modern example that could be financially successful as well.

'New Life As A Max Level Arch Mage' is pretty new, would recommend.
