He isn't, it's a skill issue
Although I believe the bit at 6 seconds is a bug. Stick should he neutral after a long jump to stop when landing. It's intuitive to hold the stick backwards, but it actually makes mario slide forward a bit on landing

Kinda odd I really like both the free-form flowing controls of Mario 64 and the much more stilted methodical controls of Tomb Raider. Guess it shows games can offer something vastly different and everything being about "quality of life" and controlling "the right way" isn't necessarily for the best.

The level design in TR is so much better than M64 it's not even funny.
