I've exclusivily played on console for like a decade because all my work is done on a PC snd when I'm done for the day I can'r stand to look at one.

That said both Sony and Xbox have managed to pissed me off so much that I actually bought a gaming laptop yesterday. Probably going to play Rebirth, Baldur's Gate 3, and Divinity Original Sin 2 on it but past that I haven't given it much thought.

It has NEVER been the case, unless you're referring to some 1980s command-prompt-only UNIX.

The normalfag "Windows refugee" distros from the past 15 years or so are all 100% GUI, just as easy to use as older Windows were, with far more customization.

Pic related was my first test run with Linux Mint back in 2020, when "Win7 is kill!!!" fearmongering started.
It was already a pretty gud run, but in the end I just went back to Win7 for the time being.

W10 IOT LTSC's .ISO is free, and you can CRACK IT for free.
Then run the OOSU10 to disable updates and leftover telemetry, and then install OpenShell to get Win7 style start menu and file browser.

That's what I did when Microcock butchered the one single app I need for my work so that it didn't run nor install on the Win7 any more.

I upgraded from a Phenom II X4 955 + Radeon HD 7850 poverty station to a dirt cheap Ryzen 5800X + RX 7600 poverty station just half a year ago. Claire Obscur is the only modern game I care about and that works well enough so I'm fine for another decade.
What I'm waiting for is dirt cheap chink SATA SSDs in the ~4TB range to replace my old Toshiba DT01ACA300 raid array. Maybe in a year or two.
