All components of game production requires some talent, from art, music, game design, and code.
Making a game thats popular is to take a product and then market it. Which is largely out of your control, you can only make your characters and music so quirky and catchy before other people are the driving force for it spreading.
Toby's success largely comes from being a pre-established microcelebrity through homestuck. He just happened to have resonated with enough people outside of that space for it to spiral wildly larger than he could have possibly imagined.

I have. A few times I wanted to get items or equipment for optional bosses. Also did a bit of point grinding because I wanted to get S-rank on my first playthrough of Chapter 3 (when you can't rely on already knowing all the quiz answers). Susie's heal also gets stronger with repeated use so you are encouraged to grind a little for Gerson's boss fight.

Chapter 2 is like 90% different. Ch3 is practically the same with a line change here and there. Ch4 has the town segment completely different, and there's a few line changes in the Dark world and foreshadows that Chapter 5 will be massively different from the normal route as well. From what I can tell.

Weird route is mostly different in chapter 2 with one changed scene in chapter 4 and a few pieces of changed dialogue here and there but it won't be a complete split until later chapter.
That's the only main different route for now, outside of the weird route there's a bunch of what-ifs involving the eggs and extra bosses but we're only at chapter 4 so far.

Chapter 3 is 99% the same, there's just a few small dialogue differences. (Of course, it also has the Mantle Game)
Chapter 4 is also like 95% the same in the Dark World, but I'm sure you can imagine that the Light World stuff with Noelle plays out very differently. The end of the Chapter also plays out differently.
It's up to you if you think replaying it is worth it for just a few significant scenes.

Both are pretty good at telling stories through gameplay and music, yeah. But the two still feel very different to me. For starters, ZUN can't write a likeable character to save his life. Tonally the two are also weird mirrors of each other. After that you should advertise yourself by posting in big community social media platforms like popular discords dedicated to fangames/modding, twitter etc

If you're talking about your own commercial game unrelated to UT/DR then obviously if you've got the cash just ask a musician if he's interested in working with you or if you want some specific songs contact the musician and ask him how much for a music license to be used in a game for (x) songs

If you don't have money though, then you're only hope is that your game naturally attracts enough attention that a musician will come to you which happens to a good amount of indie devs because when that doesn't happen the musician was either hired (or sold song licenses) or was part of a friend group that one of the devs know and got hired that way

So when it comes to attracting attention it's the same thing as any indie game

Dess has the Northern Lights on her bedroom wall and Northern Light is a track/location in Mantle. the Northern Lights are also called Aurora Borealis, named after the Greek god of the northern winter winds, Boreas. The Romans considered Boreas to actually be a northeastern wind and in your fight with the Knight, it says a north wind and then later a north and east wind blow. Boreas is usually depicted as having a billowing cloak (Shadow Mantle?) and holding a conch (found in the game).

Boreas's most famous story is raping a girl who then threw herself off a cliff. I really hope this story didn't inspire Toby. However, Boreas has another story where he competed with Pan (goat boy, god of the wilderness and emo music, lover of parties and sex) for the affection of a nymph. To impress the nymph, Boreas showed his power by uprooting a bunch of trees. Pan laughed at him for this. Seeing Pan being laidback and fun-loving, the nymph chose him over Boreas. Actually, IS this true in Deltarune? In Undertale he murdered six kids, so there was a pretty solid reason for her to not live him anymore. But that isn't the case in Deltarune. The Divorce hasn't been talked about much in-story, but when it has been brought up it is almost exclusively in a negative light and portraying how damaging it was for Kris in particular (Tenna's entire character is basically an externalization of Kris's old coping mechanisms that weren't enough after all).

We don't even know what the reason for it WAS yet, but at this point the 'Asgore deliberately hit Dess with a Truck' thing would have to be literally true for Toriel to not come out looking like an unreasonable bitch who ruined the lives of her family over bullshit at this point.

Since it seems overwhelmingly likely at this point that the whole 'Dess Disapperance/Asgore gets kicked off the police force' thing has to do with Dark Worlds- which we as the audience KNOW are real- and which Asgore almost certainly wasn't at fault for... yeah the Old Jitterbug scene might legitimately have just been Toby priming the fanbase for the coming storm where Toriel's reputation is concerned.

Either way, the fact that a lot of the focus is on the damage it caused to Kris and Asriel is pretty telling and the fact that Asgore is still portrayed somewhat sympathetically is pretty telling.
