zero's questline went nowhere for four patches because she really didn't need a five patch long storyline (honestly i think it could have been solved at 7.3 and given dawntrail a much more natural and normal lead-up) but she herself isn't offensive, she plays her character premise out five times in a row because hiroi was spinning the wheels

wuk lamat's only problem in my opinion is overexposure in a very short timespan, dawntrail 7.0 didn't need to be as long as it was and some characters like koana and zoraal ja should have gotten more screen time. though i also think the scions, excepting krile, should NOT have been a thing for this expansion whatsoever, thancred and urianger provide basically nothing but bodyguard service for koana, the elf twins provide nothing, have incredibly fucking BAD reasons for going to tural, and both are out of character for most of their screen time, g'raha is pretty much only present and relevant for living memory. y'shtola doesn't have any reason to show up at all, they just kinda remember she likes portals to other worlds. this went on a tangent but dawntrail's writing problems are not actually wuk lamat, she's pretty much a strawman or surface-level criticism due to being "the face" of the expansion. i shouldn't see her every other sentence in some kind of criticism or analysis of dawntrail but most of the people still doing that on social media and youtube and the like are still shoving her in where she doesn't have any place being, even within the confines of her own expansion

I think the big issue is 6.x had a lot of padding because they were so used to the old format they didn't have the material for a full 5 patch arc.
So Zero's arc is a 3-patch one, just stretched out over 5. Take away like half of patch 6.3 and 6.4 and already it's probably far less egregious.

yeah ultimately the actual story material on offer was suited to a 3-patch arc but it got completely shanghaied by the content model, they had to wait for the designated trial patches for any appreciable furthering of story. if it had been 7.1 barbariccia, 7.2 rubicante, 7.3 golbez + zeromus, it'd have gone a lot better and gotten the brevity it needed
