In reality, playstation has single digit profit margins and has for a while which is why the new CEO said they need to be aggressive with multiplatform when he came into power in like march or whenever it was. Helldivers 2 to xbox is just the first.

Xbox is the biggest publisher in the world and the biggest publisher on playstation though. They're fine. The layoffs don't seem to be related to the health of the business but is apparently a Microsoft initiative to "streamline" the company. They've already announced not one but 2 upcoming consoles with a partnership with amd. Sony definitely wants to have a presence on xbox in the same way xbox has a presence on playstation. Notice how the release date for helldivers 2 is the same as gears reloaded, almost like Sony are trying to steal MS thunder on MS own platform and gain marketshare. It is what you'd consider aggressive tbf so the CEO is getting his wish. I won't be surprised to see spiderman ported to xbox by the end of the year.

For playstation? Yeah it does make you wonder how they'll navigate the market seeing as all their competitors will have major advantages. Nintendo already dominate the handheld market, valve will always have its appeal with steamdeck and steam os because its the closest thing to a PC handheld that isn't a straight up windows handheld, which brings us onto the next gen xbox consoles which will just been Windows based console/handheld. So there is natural appeal to each of these products. A playstation 6 which will sell itself as a premium device with high pricing but will have the least options and freedom of all the platforms will be a tough sell. Shawn layden was probably right when he said there's only one or max 2 more playstation gens left.
