What does /v/ think of speedrunning?
If you keep chasing world record times, is it truely the most honest sign of how much you like the game?
I feel like it would kill my enjoyment of a game
Its a side effect of taking HRT
It's for the mentally ill. I also prefer to take my time with games so it's anathema to my enjoyment of them.
glitchless speedruns are based and sisyphus pilled
glitched speedruns are autistic shit
I used to really like watching Mitchflowerpower's runs, SummoningSalt makes great content, and SM64 stuff before it became obnoxiously sweaty is a real treat to watch - but outside of those exceptions I don't hold a high opinion of it. I also really do not like the amount of focus speedrunning gets, and I especially hate that it's effectively the face of retro gaming now.
Depends on the game. Going fast in Super Mario Bros. shows you have mastery over the game mechanics and level design. Going fast in Assassin's Creed or Dark Souls or Fallout or Breath of the Wild is just you running past everything the game is trying to show you while disengaging from most of its mechanics. In 3D games I'd say going slower is a truer sign you like the game. The guy who spends hundreds of hours exploring and looking at the environments, doing all the sidequests, trying unique stuff in combat probably likes the game a lot more.
>>714436704 (OP)speedtrooning is the gayest vidya challenge
>no death run>no save run>no getting hitinfintely more impressive challenges that take a lot more skill and effort than speedtrooning. speedtroonin is like 70% luck
>>714436704 (OP)>If you keep chasing world record times, is it truely the most honest sign of how much you like the game?no, i think chasing high scores is better for that
>>714437675>>no death runThese were always my favorite kind of run, to me they're a lot more impressive than just "lul let's rape the game with glitches and go fast"
>>714436704 (OP)I do like watching them because all the crazy stuff people do and how they just master the game is cool.
But I'd never be able to do it myself since I feel it'd kill the game for me. Like if I learned ways to skip parts or just how to play the most effective way to get through stuff the fastest would just ruin playing the game normally
