These days nobody likes to bring up that this game was extremely well received and was one of the best selling and most positively reviewed NES games of the year. You can chalk it up to Turtlemania being in full swing maybe but if it was truly shit it wouldn't have taken over a decade for anyone to bring it up.

Does the electric seaweed hurt you the moment you touch it or is there some downtime before it can damage you?

Yes, but not on the dam level. I legit never failed the dam once. All it takes is going slowly and carefully. What always fucked me up was in level three. In order to advance you need to get missiles so the turtle van can blow up these barricades blocking progression. To get the missiles you need to go into this warehouse and navigate to this platform where you cross a gap to reach them. For the life of me I could never ever make the jump despite trying hundreds of times because the platform is right at the top of the screen and if you jumped you would bounce off the ceiling and fall back down to the ground floor. Eventually I got so frustrated I quit playing the game permanently. Years later I found out that you just walk across it.

People always bitch about the dam or the airport, but the final stretch of the game is by far the most bullshit thing in existence. I guess people didn't make it that far.

The dam is piss easy as long as you just switch turtles when your guy starts running low on health.

For as much of a ball-buster TMNT NES is, I would give my left nut for a TMNT game like that today that mixes multiple genres, or hell even a proto-Metroidvania type game like Radical Rescue was. I liked Shredder's Revenge but the beat em up formula has gotten old after 35+ years. The Turtles are basically so old and, I'm sorry to say irrelevant, that you could do something really unprecedented and zap some life into the franchise again.

This. It has the same issue as Double Dragon with the infinite respawning enemies. Saw Mike Metei beat it only because he exploited the spawn points and it still was a game of chance not getting that one enemy to spawn.

I remember seeing that game in a Toyworld in Queensland in 1990. I sat and watched/listened to the attract mode for a while. Having only a C64 at home i was absolutely blown away at the animation when they fling their weapons around in the intro. And the music was kino.

The game ended up being absolute shit though.

This. People obsess over the wrong part of NES games constantly. This is the equivalent of the Turbo Tunnel: babby's first challenge in the game. Airport onwards is where the suffering becomes real.

>>714438665
You can get through it because hitboxes are not the same as visuals.
