During certain stages of Super Mario Sunshine, you have Yoshi as a companion. If the player allows Yoshi to die, you are unable to complete the stage and have to restart it.

Some years ago at Games Done Quick, a runner fucked up during this stage and lost an insane amount of progress while a transvestite on his couch basically berated him for the next few minutes. The phrase "What are you going to do about that?" really struck a chord, like the tranny had personally insulted him, and he looked like he was about to cry. The run ended up being decent and that same guy would come back to a later GDQ with some much more charismatic commentary who actually cheered him on.
