You want the big redpill on why GTA VI is going to be so successful? Rockstar carefully crafted it, and more importantly the main characters, to be a reflection of what we want in ourselves, our lives, and a romantic partner in the current age. The game will be a pop culture hit because it is a reflection of pop culture itself. People are more disconnected than ever from romance and happiness and Jason and Lucia and their Bonny & Clyde story are mirrors into our souls. Jason is the good looking, white bad boy Chad who does what he wants and can go from a stoic dude with a crew cut to a trailer trash free spirit with free flowing hair and a backwards ball cap at will. For guys he’s the “literally me” self insert and for women he represents the guy they truly want in reality, someone who they would swipe right on Tinder for in an instant. You think Rockstar didn’t see women’s reactions to Arthur in RDR2?
As for Lucia, she represents the strong, independent, chaotic female who gives off toxic vibes but fucks her man’s brains out at night. She’s the self insert for women and for guys she represents the “fiery but passionate Latina” archetype that’s often fetishized. For the first time ever we’re not getting characters that are stereotypical criminal types, aging old men, or pop culture remakes. The characters are supposed to represent the player and their idealized life in this hellscape we call the real world in 2025. Just think of all the YouTube video essays and online debates that will be going around about how “Lucia was right to betray Jason” and “Lucia fucked it all up because she was nuts, Jason did nothing wrong”. The debate of Jason vs Lucia and who the “bad guy” was will be one of the biggest gaming debates in the coming years.
