It's this easy.

>>714459216 >Video games are already barely profitable in current year Because of over inflated budgets Just scale the productions back, indie games are already running laps around AAA
>>714459514 >Because of over inflated budgets Oh I'm not arguing otherwise, but try telling that to the corporate fuckheads who continue to fund $300,000,000 games that are guaranteed (emphasis on GUARANTEED) to flop and need to reach as wide of an international audience as possible just to break even.
>>714458889 (OP) But games have said for decades on them that you're buying a licence, not the actual code... They've explicitly claimed to be licences this whole time. You're free to do whatever with the disc and box if you bought one, but ownership of the software hasn't been guaranteed in any way and has been explicitly mentioned as only being a licence. How does this get past that? Not giving your channel a view btw.
>>714459032 Yet Apple dropped to its knees and did EU's bidding. Do you really think publishers can afford that?

>>714459729 >You're free to do whatever with the disc and box if you bought one, Now imagine companies coming into your house, with no prior warning, and taking that disc away, telling you "we decided we're not profiting from this game anymore and will no longer support it, so you don't get to play it anymore, no refunds by the way" and there's nothing you can do about it. SKG is trying to stop that specifically.
>>714459729 Just because they say it doesn't mean it is or should be true. Or if it's currently it doesn't mean it can't be changed. >How does this get past that? By making laws that say otherwise. If you buy a board game you have a thing that can't be taken away from you. Why should it be any different if you buy a digital version of that board game?

I'm glad SKG went through and pirate software's infamy blew up. I just wish the something similar happened for the melee trannies to made Hax kill himself and that Leffen guy still got away scout free.

Latest Ross video confirms my suspicions there's a big botting effort on the initiative. We'll need at least 1.5 million it seems, it's possible the actual signatures are at like 700k.

You can do an offline mode easily for some smaller live service games. It's the bigger more complicated ones you'll likely have a trouble doing it with like an MMO. People who think that's just a simple server fix really show how little or no game developing experience they have.

>>714465935 Yeah, people think the ECI is a referendum. It's more like a way to signal to the bureaucrats that an issue is popular enough for them to look at. They then need to decide if they want to actually spend time and political capital to address the issue.
People also think that if it does go through and gets actioned, companies will stop making live service games. They won't. They'll just add an offline single player mode against the dumbest of bots just to satisfy the EU requirements.

Hey /v/.
Thor here.
I am an actual expert in this field. I have been in the games industry for 20 years.
I was the Lead of Application Security at Blizzard Entertainment, a Senior Red Team Specialist for Blizzard, have three black badges from DEF CON and my last job was hacking power plants for the United States Department of Energy. Over my career I have formed detections that have led to the banning of over 2,000,000 accounts. This is 100% my wheelhouse.
I know my shit. Stop fighting devs. They are your allies.
