Symphony of War
Got this on the Steam sale and it might be one of the best games I've ever played.
Did /v/ like it when it came out or was it overshadowed by the latest AAA shill campaign?
Anonymous No.714470502 [Report] >>714470557
I finished it 3 years ago or so.
I don't remember much, only that I used that one startegist dude with 5 horse dragoons or what they're called (musketeers on horses) and he was an absolute menace, game got almost too easy with that setup.
really solid gameplay and charming artstyle. Loved the spritework.
Oh and the giantess lady was hot.

Shut up. /v/ is to busy shilling Konjimbo's latest trash, being angry about EU rights, women taking over the hobby and minorities (despite most of /v/ being brown).

It came out quite some time ago, I remember people posting screenshots of giant Diana. I think people were having fun back then, never entered the threads.
Played it after my second playthrough of Unicorn Overlord, craving more squad-building SRPGs. Still prefer UO, but also enjoyed Symphony of War immensely. Great game.

it was a bit of a sleeper-hit i guess
i think the dumbest thing they did, marketing-wise was advertise the female protagonist everywhere despite 99% of the gaming population wanting to self-insert as the male protagonist
you could chose and i felt that was undercommunicated

Yeah, they could have advertised that and also hinted at there being romance.
It's shallow as fuck and barely matters, but it exists in the game. And people love their waifus.
Spoiler alert Not really

yeah it would probably have done better had they advertised it more like that
that being said, as you say, it hardly matters, and it is imo the gameplay that shines

Did anyone here actually play as the girl? Maybe I do it for a second playthrough, but I don't want to romance any of the guys.
Also, post units.

It was fun to play and was extremely successful for a low budget indie crew, particularly one that doesn't even have a dedicated artist. It's getting a sequel that should be getting a lot more budget behind it.

That said its story was pretty not great. A real throwaway one. But giant Diana's giant clapping asscheeks was enough plot for me so whatever.

It was OK. I quit at some point like 3/4 into the game because the battles got too tedious when every encounter had a gorillion units present.

Most people I saw streaming it had fem MC. The game lets you romance everyone without giving a shit about gender if I recall.

Don't have a real unit screenshot but I do have the screenshot I made that won the contest to get on the store page.

Not really. In battle Economy plays a huge role in AW and you can pump out new units mid battle in AW. It's way closer to Fire Emblem.

maybe you're thinking of wargroove which is a fantasy clone of AW

SRPG (strategy-roleplaying game) with squad-building. You get a bunch of named character that can lead squads, and put other generics and mercenaries into those. You can create heavy-duty frontlines, cavalry squads, use mages, clerics, ambush units. There are dragons and gunpowder units. Lots of fun organizing and customizing squads and also individual units.
Story starts strong (in my opinion) when it focused on politics, but it's a general consensus that it at some point it falls of. Gameplay still carries it.
Has also hot girls (and guys?).
>>714471675
Squald-building is way closer to Unicorn Overlord, while the actual gameplay during battle is more like FE.

Decent game but incredibly forgettable and shallow. The most memorable thing about the game's launch was the dev getting mocked when he came to a thread on 4chan to demand people stop bullying him.

Only if you squint. It's got that tile-based movement, sure, but the squad system makes it way more layered than AW ever was. Each unit is practically a mini army, and how you build them determines if you steamroll or get steamrolled. Plus there's permadeath, class promotion trees, resource management-it leans harder into Fire Emblem crossed with Ogre Battle.

AW is Coke, Symphony of War is a whiskey mixer with 3 unknown ingredients that somehow tastes great.

from what I played I enjoyed it, it was like a fire emblem game that trimmed out as much of the bits that make fire emblem trash as possible
I should probably start it back up again after I put it down ages ago right after you reincarnate because I felt like saving it for a rainy day since it was actually something decent and I'd been playing for a few straight days

Hey I played this recently and did a few playthroughs. Its pretty good and has a lot of things to make it replayable due to all the modular options once you beat the game, also buying your previous unit and items is cool. Though I feel like the squad size is a bit too large for my liking, its like 15~20 ish. Also it's kind of a pain to ironman since losing one unit you invested in feels awful, even if you have a fall squad. Granted you can revive your units but it still doesn't feel good if you sacrifice your unit or squads to make a play.
Anonymous No.714474239 [Report] >>714478548
>>714473950
The point of ironman is to get good at creating units out of complete shitters. You're going to lose some yeah but there's more Johnsons where that came from. There was some upgrade that really helps with that.

I got tired of my units dying and wanted a strong squad that killed stuff so I initially settled on an all champion team. Then added heavy defensive frontline units. Works well until late game since there are no healers. Also love using arcane barrier but don't have it on this team due to the tiara.

Also I want to make a full team with general ragavi and anyone that has the guile ability.

Anonymous No.714475987 [Report]
>>714474956
I used to have her and any sword masters as my kill squad but I learned once morale is low, your damage gets lowered. It feels like the chance to dodge also gets lowered.

I think I like the morale mechanic, meaning weak or very injured squads can still contribute, but most of the time I just kill everyone. I know the target leader tactic command is made to help lower morale but the chance enemies can resist surrender is still affected by the attacking squad's morale, which is relative to their threat level. So no, my weaker or injured squads can't contribute that greatly, they still need stronger squads to help.

God this art is ugly, and reeks of aisloppa to boot. Sprites are a little better, but not by much. Actual strategy is pretty weak. Would've been 3/10 at best if not for the giant woman that made me go full awooga.
Anonymous No.714478548 [Report]
>>714474239
yea but there's always a failsafe since you can buy mercs, and it still takes a lot of time and resources to build up your squad. And because there's no battle forecast like in FE, you have to intuit that your weak squad won't get wiped, especially when everyone's health gets around half HP.

I converted all my shitter units into a healing calvary squad and thats cool but besides that and chipping down already weakened enemies is all I can do with em.
