Who was the more iconic indie franchise of the 2010s?

Undertale lasted from 2015 to 2016/2017.
FNaF just kept going, peaked with FNaF 6, Help Wanted, and just went to shit after Security Breach.

FNaF has an amazing concept with great adaptability to any genre, it just needs a good artist to properly execute it.
Undertale was better executed, but its concept could have been used more properly with multiple timeline shenanigans that could make the game feel more alive. Also, the game fails to make you sympathize with the characters that are actively trying to murder a child. Horrortale is a much better reinterpretation because it gives monsters a reason to kill you, they want to eat you because they are starving. Yes, it's awful and you would defend yourself anyway. But at least they have a true decision that it's understandable.
Then you have Deltarune with a decent story and great game overall, but what really stands out is the meta narrative with Gaster, Player and Noelle, the Weird Route, etc.
To be completely honest, I will give the trophy to FNaF uniquely because it's adaptable l, while Deltarune can only work on its own context.

One time on F-list I got approached by someone playing this character and I didn't know it was Deltarune related. Either way they were pretty fun and sucked my shota character bone dry across 4 hours or so. Memorable as fuck rp I'll tell ya. Anyway thanks for reading my blog.

Pretty much the entire cast of the first few games in FNAF are iconic and easily recognizable to anyone. Sans is the only Undertale who really matches that and that's more because of memes than his actual character, because he's a side character with a superboss fight.

I think FNAF in the end ended up being way more popular, but it's understandable given how many sequels were pumped out, how much buzz online there was about the cryptic lore which was constantly expanded upon, how many books there were, etc. Comparatively Undertale was just a single game. A game that was generally perceived as being of phenomenal quality, with much higher profile in that regard than any FNAF game, but still, it was just one game. Not much to keep people hyped for a long time after the credits rolled. It also had lore mysteries, but it was nowhere near the level of cryptic complexity that FNAF had. Toby Fox started to work on Deltarune later, but it's not set in the same universe, or at least the connection between the two isn't very straight-forward.

Undertale's music is pretty much the only thing that lasted beyond a popularity window of a few years.
Even Deltarune is only getting so much attention because of its gay fucking release schedule where they release chapters instead of the whole game, artificially prolonging interest in what is so far, just another quirky indie RPG with elements of a more impressive meta story being kept to the side until later chapters release, and its popularity inflated by the number of fags that like the fact that half the characters are gay.
FNAF never needed any of that to be monolithically popular. Undertale has a good story and yet its lore didn't have nearly the level of impact of FNAF's minimal story glued together by secrets and easter eggs. 1000x the people know who William Afton is as opposed to WD Gaster.

Undertale was the better game, but FNAF is more iconic as Scott Cawthon kept striking while the iron was hot

>the peaks of both franchises release in 2014-2015
>ever since then they've been releasing products of worse quality, desperately trying to mimic what made their games iconic in the first place
