Depends on the game. Some games have entire archives while other games are hard to find. Pretty much every Blizzard game has an archive (Wowhead or icyvains for ex.)
I use IGN for some stuff too. It seems like you never can get an advanced guide on there but if you get stuck they can help you out of storyline and basic stuff.
Some games still sell strategy guides. That's my go to for retro game stuff.
Don't forget google. That has worked for me for many years.
