That's kind of the point though. None of the other characters are "true" Riders. Shinji is the only true Kamen Rider in the entire show, the only one who fights in order to save the lives of others. The others are all fakes, fighting purely for their own wishes or egos. Kamen Rider is fundamentally the story of heroes. Those who refuse to fight to protect others can call themselves Kamen Riders, but they will never, ever embody the true spirit of what it means to be one. Shinji alone is the bearer of the selflessness that true Riders must possess, the only one who carries on the same type of will as Hongo, Shigeru, Godai and the rest.

I couldn’t get into it. I tried though. I watched decade first which was a massive mistake and I only did that because I thought it would be a megamind move to see which entry I would watch first. I liked kabuto a lot despite it having problems. I watched about 25 or 30 episodes of deno next I think and dropped it because it was too weird. I might try it again. Then I watched like 40 episode of blade waiting for it to get good but droppped that. I watched ryuki recently and it might be my favorite. I didn’t like how time death blade was. My main problem I remember with blade was how slow it was and I really didn’t like any of the cast or find them interesting. Ren is cooler yeah but has his own issues and he is like the foil to shinji. Shinji is too dumb often to think of a good plan. Ren is smart enough to make a plan but too dumb to realize when it makes sense to cooperate or work together as a team. the apppeal to me of ryuki is that from a certain perspective there wasn’t a main rider there are just ones that we happen to follow more often than others. Multiple characters had growth, you could argue that zolda grew as much as shinji did being a total retard at the start of the show. If he had lived longer and had another dozen episodes or so he may have ended up being as good of a guy as ren or shinji. He kind of got fucked the worst because after the timeline reset he probably still will die from whatever illness he had.

I remember garren at least at the beginning being difficult in some way where he was causing problems but not to the exponential degree of the club themed one. I think my issue with blade was there just wasn’t a single character in it that I could really get invested into or like at all. No charisma. I think the only character I may have liked was chalice. But I remember nothing about him other than he was having a hard time.


Kamen rider really relies on its characters since so much of the show is the lives of the characters outside of the fighting and it really frustrates me when they make a cast that sucks. Later entries I think overcorrectsd though by making everyone too cartoonish and I think this ws largely inspired by the massive success of den-o. Again I may rewatch it but I remember it being annoying. I did like the imagin supporting cast except for that purple one who danced all the time. I think they could have removed him or replaced him with something better. We didn’t need a breakdancing form.

He didn't fail, he just didn't rider kick the main villain.
Shinji was the entire reason the rider war doesn't escalate further and was the one who broke the Time Vent loop allowing the story to progress further.

For you ryuki chads did that guy who organized the rider fighter and made the belts also invent or create the mirror world? Did he sister? Or did it already exist and somehow they connected to it? Would the mirror world exist regardless of anything else happening?


I personally think the mirror world stuff is some of the most interesting story plot I’ve seen thus far in a kamen rider show. What’s his name going to America and researching it there and all the other little plot points I found very interesting.


I hope one day they make some new riders for ryuki even if it’s just a videogame or something. I suppose the way it works is ryuki would have looked different if he had contracted with a different mirror monster. So there are many possible forms other characters could have had. Ryuki having a blank form in episode 1 where he looks different but the helmet still sort of has the ryuki shape has always seemed more like a plot oversight to me.

There are some telenovela-tier bullshit moments, but a lot of the character drama and angst makes sense given that the main cast is composed essentially of teenagers who are very, very broken and fucked up people. Abyss funny enough was the first ryuki rider I ever saw, back on /toy/ or something years ago before I even knew what ryuki was or anything about kamen rider. I thought the design looked so cool I saved a picture of it assuming it was from an anime or a videogame or something. They just need to make a ryuki game where it follows the original idea of the show where they were going to have like 50 riders. just make a shitload of kamen riders. Maybe even give you the option of picking what you contract with. If they can make abyss using the monsters that were in ryuki already, they can probably make a lot of other cool ones like using the spider from the first episode for example.

Shinji was actually the strongest Rider other than Odin. His hesitation was what held him back. He managed to 1v1 multiple Riders including Ouja, Alternative and Knight. The entire reason Ryuga exists is to give Shinji the one opponent he can legitimately fight without holding back against.
