Yup, pretty much. TES has always leaned into the weird metaphysics stuff-like how a monkey could become a god if it realizes it's dreaming hard enough. Sentient mudcrab isn’t even top 10 weird for Tamriel. Still more plausible than the talking dog that’s literally a Daedric Prince’s avatar.

If you killem you can loot crabmeat and sometimes also coins and a lockpick (!). The crabmeat can be used for potions that protect against shock. Idk any lore though.
