Why is it that Comedy feels like a dead genre in videogames?
The only games that are an attempt to be a Comedy at its main level that I feel like the collective majority of gamers would agree they like is pic related.

High on Life, and other attempts in recent years just gets much more negative press, or do not exist whatsoever in the mainstream.

because modern writers especially modern video game writers suck at making dialogue

>because modern writers especially modern video game writers suck at making dialogue

So I was thinking about this when I made this thread, and how that poker night is dialogue heavy, and that one can argue the gameplay is lacking from a traditional videogame since it's poker

But that doesn't really give an answer why there doesn't seem to be any good slapstick humor games either. I feel maybe the time for that would've been at the height in popularity of platformers but then at that time videogame animation could not be as expressive as say Tom & Jerry for something 3D which captivated the market.

Banjo Kazooie and Tooie, and rare probably come close in that regard of having humor done well but too early in the 3D era for true slapstick

AAA games are all made basically by committee for mass appeal, and so downplay any comedic elements since a sense of humor isn't as universal as action or an epic sense of scale.

Comedy games mostly thrived in niche games, especially back when development was cheaper. Platformers, Point and Clicks, a handful of niche RPGs, that was the extant of comedy games, really.
There are still comedy indie games out there, but even those are out numbered by horrors or dramas which will reach a broader audience.
