This game is so good that it only speaks volumes about how good Planet Robobot was to overshadow it. I love Kirby, not a single bad game in the series (we don't talk about rainbow curse)

Star Allies is shit though.
The Wii game is fine.
The 3DS game is fine.
The second 3DS game was fine but they had to add robot gimmick to keep it from getting stale, understandable.
Then we get Star Allies and they do the exact same game a 4th time but this time no gimmicks
Also there are plenty of bad games in the series Star Allies isn't even the worst.
Golf game sucks.
Mass Attack sucks.
Canvas Curse sucks.
Rainbow Curse sucks.
Squeak Squad sucks but no one wants to admit it

Super Star/Ultra > Return to Dreamland > Squeak Squad > Star Allies > Triple Deluxe > Robobot I hated the robot, I don't know why > Dreamland 3 > Forgotten Land > 64 > Epic Yarn > Amazing Mirror > Adventure/Nightmare in Dreamland > Dreamland 2 > Dreamland

Not a single Kirby game is bad, but just like Metroid and Zelda, the series peaked on the SNES.

Epic Yarn does suck if you play through it normally but if you play for score then it becomes one of the hardest, most engaging games in the series. It's kind of like Yoshi's Story that way.

The only truly bad Kirby game is Air Ride.

The only other game I didn't like was KDL2, but I haven't played about half the spinoffs. 100%'d Canvas Curse and loved it back in the day, no idea if it'd still hold up but I bounced off Rainbow Curse quickly

star allies's friend moves/elemental fusions are more interesting than robobot's just ok animal buddies stand-in since you're free to actually use them wherever rather than just specific sections as far as i'm concerned, makes them way more meaningful i feel

They're a significant step up from Squeak Squad. There all you can do is give an elemental property to one of 3 weapons, SA has much more interesting combos. I only wish the main campaign wasn't so short and braindead and gave you more reasons to use them.

Said moves specifically for a reason, things like the web trampoline being a built-in hi-jump and team suplex, even Cook's friend food are way more interesting than the Robobot gimmick and can be pretty useful in different situations. I agree the Friend segments can be hit or miss, I do prefer the Friend Star to most other Kirby shmup segments due to the different projectile types and the fact you can still do more traditional platforming with it if you want.

I really disagree on the basis of things like the Wind fusions, since those actually do tend to open up different movement options compared to a base ability, stuff like bigger jumps or Cutter curving upwards. I do agree that a few fusions aren't as in-depth but I think Wind alone justifies them in most cases, even moreso when you add Dream Friends into the mix, with stuff like Marx getting different boss attacks of his depending on the element, or DMK going from being somewhat rushdown centric to actually having quite a bit more range. Definitely an element I think people downplay way too hard.
