I want to get into this series and hopefully convince my friends to play with me.
Should I start with 5 or pic rel? They're both on sale right now

You can start with either BUT EDF6 hits different if you have the context of EDF5 in the back of your mind, EDF6 also has changes that give Air Raider and Ranger substantial glow ups from 5

edf is imo the most fun coop game available so look forward to it.

As for where to start, its a bit complicated. Ideally I would say 4>5>6 , 4 has some really great maps and moments but can be hard to return to after playing 5 for all the improvements and gore system it added. 6, youre not gonna get the full appeal of the time loop story without playing 5 first, the catch 22 being that if you have played 5 its a lot of recycled shit and the whole thing feels like a dlc. Also they ruined air raider in 6.

5 is my personal favorite

6 is a direct sequel to 5. Play 5 first.

Does EDF6 still have desync issues? It's only thing keeping me from buying it

Start with 4.1 instead. It's the cheapest and best of the ones on PC so you'll have an easier time convincing buddies to pick it up.

4.1 has the best levels, enemies and story
5 is a minor step down in those three regards but makes some really good quality of life improvements like adding loadout slots specifically for shit people would never take in 4 due to inventory limits and converting some exploits into real mechanics
6 is again a step down from 5 in levels but another step up in quality of life
I would say start from 4.1

They gave Air Raider a lot more stuff they can use in underground missions but in exchange a lot more of the game uses the underground mission loadout limitations so it's kind of just a lateral move in power level

That's a kick to the nuts, and i was just getting back to finishing everything on inferno after my first save was corrupted, how does this shit happens on PC? Never had this problem with EDF5.
