No they just eat a fuck ton of data and take the form of that data. This guy exists because someone made a report on some ancient city, that report manifested as some ruins in the digital world, a digimon explored said ruins, somehow that made it absorb the report, and it became the city.

that 'data' is the fantasies and imagination of humans. thus when they eat it that data they are eating the imagination of humans.
>why babies and young digimon look less humanoid, cause they are more 'creative' with their imagination
>while mid to adult digimon, look colder, more mechanical and humanoid cause adults tend to lose their creativity imaginations and more cold and logical.

It's not fun. It's just another number you need to make bigger. And if you don't distribute it the right way (like in DTR2), it's really annoying and tedious to get certain evolutions. You could simply replace it with standard conditions, such as care mistakes, weight, and perhaps add the nature value Monster Rancher had, and so on. And all those would go a lot smoother and not feel so arbitrary.

And while I'm complaining, why is it that in Digital Tamers Reborn 2, when you fight a level 7 adult stage and a level 7 child, you get the same payout? You're supposed to make the more powerful opponents much more rewarding, or else the player will just punch down since that's way more efficient and cost-effective.

Being annoying or unfun is not an argument against something, that's a personal preference. There's no functional difference from regular exp farming, the only notable mechanical difference is that you get sent to various areas of the game instead of sitting in a single tile grinding the meta exp spot. On top of adding variety it serves as a means of both balancing and restricting certain digivolutions based on progress in the game without entirely locking them off.

Is the fact that there's a second kind of EXP that does nothing except gate you off from some shit not sound somewhat questionable? If you have a dragon digimon, plant exp is useless until you unlock the burger that turns it into normal exp.

The second point about it keeping you from just grinding in the metal slime area. I counter with there's better ways to do that. 1 is just not having exp in a virtual pet game in the first place. The others are the shit I allready suggested. It's a v-pet game so it could have done that with v-pet mechanics.

That third point about it gate-keeping evos but not completely, could work if it's in a Story game. But I am ranting about a shoddy attempt at recreating Digimon Championship (which wasn't even that good in the first place) I should not have to wait for the exp I want to make it evolve into the path I want if I can only raise one of them at a time. (Championship did btw also in that game digimon aged and died much faster which made it easier to accept since trying again was a more viable option) There's also the fact that the game does a poor job of distributing it. There should be a reliable way at the end of the game to get EXP of every species in a decent amount for each stage, since they all get exponentially more powerful and expensive. But if your digimon isn't a fish it's shit out of luck at the early and late stages.
>>714539026
Species exp is way more annoying because you have to get a source for each kind. ABI is annoying, but you have a universal solution of just evolving and devolving a mid-level guy a few times, then going for the thing you want.

It's a pretty good game. Solid in almost all areas, but it is way too simplified for newcomers imo. Everybody always blow things out of proportion about it too, really only the penetrating attacks being unbalanced and the dialogue being weird are a big deal at all. For example somebody already posted about the dungeons, but the visual design of the dungeons isn't the actual issue since they look good visually speaking.

It is good if all you want is the digital world experience + raising a pet, but it is also very grindy in the turn based rpg way (this game requires you grind specific Digimon overworld encounters for stats as opposed to the gym/tamagotchi style of the original world game) and very unbalanced if you ever use the cross evolution gimmick at all so combat is a bit unsatisfying.

imo you just play it for the Digimon and the vibe for lack of a better term. It is a very comfy game, but not a particularly deep one.
