Is the Switch 2 Pro controller the best controller out there?

I know it doesn't have hall effect joy sticks, so it's life span is limited. But it feels so much nicer to play with than any other controller I've tried.

I saw a few people say the EasySMX D10 and the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 are the other best controllers out there, but I've tried them. And they just aren't as nice. The joy cons grind against the side the rim, and buttons don't feel as snappy.

Yeah it's pretty good. I wouldn't mind another couple back buttons but two is still a huge improvement over none. Glad the plastic feels good and isn't a smudge or sweat magnet.

PROS
-comfy since its the same shape as the old controller

CONS
-everything else

i mean really. no hall effect sticks. no toggle on the triggers (prefer button anyway but its still a thing). added paddles but they are in a fixed, built-in position and there are only 2 when the de facto standard is 4.

and now it doesnt work wirelessly on pc like the previous version.

You clearly have never actually used the Switch 2 Pro controller. Because one of its major selling points is that it's NOT the same shape as the Switch 1 Pro controller. They changed the button size, changed the controller size, and changed the lay out so it's much ergonomical in your hand.

>Joy cons
If you think they're called that you clearly haven't used enough controllers to know what's good. While the sticks feel great on the new pro controllers Nintendo aren't the first to implement the mechanism for it in a controller even. If you're curious, it's that the physical piece that limits the sticks range isn't the sticks gate but rather on the dome inside the controller, the stick on the controller never physically touches the gate. Cool tech but completely wasted because the new pancake potentiometers inside the controller are the exact same as the constantly failing joy cons you know and love. It's not just a standard lifespan, it's a joycon lifespan. I'll stick with my og pro thanks and if I want back pedals my ultimate 2 is right there.

No, I don't know why you would think that, it's just a basic bitch controller that costs $90 for some fucking reason.

The 8bitdo Ultimate 2 is better, has back buttons AND nice extra L4 + R4 shoulder buttons, and is much cheaper. There's no reason to pay so much for a Switch 2 pro controller when it's inferior.

As someone who's used both, the Switch 2 Pro controller is a very, very big upgrade over the Switch 1 controller.

That said, it's not going to change your life. There's no reason not to just wait until you need a new controller and get the Switch 2 one as an upgrade.

Lmao, even dogshit cheap retroshart controllers have between 1-3ms latency nowadays. And nintendo wants 90 bucks for this.
The only positive I could say is that both this and joycon 2 have really nice smooth feel on the analog sticks, rest is the same garbage like the pivoting d-pad that will misinput diagonals.

I have both this and the switch 2 Pro controller in my hand right now. And I just don't like the 8bitdo Ultimate 2 as much. The sticks have a really annoying plastic-on-plastic clacking sound anytime you touch the side of the rim.

The 8bitdo is fucking shit. Most overrated piece of shit. I get my misinputs on that dpad compared to my switch 2. The plastic feels cheap and shit, face buttons too small, analog sticks are so shit compared to switch 2 (hall effect is useless if you take care of your shit), anolog triggers so worse than digital for 99.9 percent of games. Unless your forza or gran turismo its shit.

I will say that inspired of my initial discomfort with the change in ergonomics compared to the original Pro controller, and the desig. If the joystick caps with these "grip rings" that can be a little abrasive on my left thumb in games that have me going a single direction for long dyrationa of time, I find myself going back to this controller frequently to play Switch, Wii U, and GameCube games as the joysticks do feel smoother than any other controller I own. I think once the joystick cap grips "wear in" they become a little more comfortable to use, aside from the material being kind of "slick" rather than grippy.

It’s a great controller but it is absolutely not worth the price tag. I was able to get it at a steep discount (around $60) and would consider that a pretty fair price for what’s on offer.

In general I don’t think controllers are worth the exorbitant prices being charged these days, so make of that what you will.

It’s a tad smaller than the original pro controller, which I don’t like very much (and find somewhat strange considering literally everything else about the Switch 2 is larger). However, the sticks are incredible and I love how discrete the back buttons are. Everything feels very premium.

My favorite part about it is the improved gyro. I play most of my shooters with gyro controls these days because mice have been causing me wrist pain lately, so the boost is greatly appreciated. Really hoping it gets SteamInput support soon so I can get it mapped to my PC library.

tl;dr it’s a very premium product with great features, but for $90 I’d also expect it to double as a fleshlight that jerks me off in tandem with Daisy’s hip gyrations.

Probably cus the Switch 1 Pro was very comfy and so was the Wii U pro and the Wii Pro. Nintendo just makes good controllers.

I also have a Series X, DS4, and Steam Controller all for PC.

One thing I will say tho is that I wish the switch pro was a tiny bit wider and that the right stick was on top like Wii U.

What? Am I missing the joke? I know that certain games used it and benefitted from it, namely Super Mario Sunshine and various racing games. But most games do not need it at all. And analog triggers are mushy and a vastly worse input than traditional buttons for most games. The PS2 had analog face buttons which a few games used, but most games ignored this feature and even many veterans of the PS2 don't even remember it.

While I'm at it, the d-pad of the Pro Controller is fine for the vast majority of games. But if you're a Tetris autist, you will want to mod it or just swap it for a more precise controller. This is all give and take, the Pro Controller is designed to be as generalist as possible.

The only real criticism is lack of Hall effect sticks, which is positively odd coming from Nintendo since they are typically about withered technology.

I wouldn't buy it, unless it was to use on the Switch 2 (since the options there are limited because the hardware arbitrarily blocks you from using your controllers because that's the "magic" of using consoles, I think).
On PC, I'll want a decent dpad to use on emulators, and the Switch 2 Pro Controller's dpad is terribly inaccurate, as has already been proven. There are no analog triggers either, and that's going to be important on PC because you're going to have a lot of simulators or games that require more analog inputs than the two sticks.
Plus, it's expensive as hell.

It has an absurd battery life at 80 hours. The sticks don't bug me, I don't get why asymmetrical is "needed", it just seems to me like people got used to playing asymmetrical with a 360 controller and anything else pissed them off. They do the same thing, my fingers are right beside buttons either way, do people have baby thumbs and have to reposition their hands every time they press a button?

But it also feels really light as a controller, which I think contributes to this feeling of cheapness.

Same. People acting like the new controller is so great can't say anything beyond "it feels good". Doesn't even have analog triggers.

That's literally all a controller needs to do though
People are getting real hung up on analogue triggers though, I'm not sure why

Try driving slowly in cyberpunk. You basically have to keep tapping and releasing the gas and your car jerks forward everytime.

Unironically made using the original molds with slightly different plastics.
It may feel slightly smoother on the hand than the originals, but it's effectively the exact same, just wireless.

Triggers are a meme outside of racing sims and the sticks feel smoother than any other controller on the market right now
But that'll probably change now that other will copy nintendo again

racing sims are basically racing wheel or bust, they are also a goddamn money sink both because of the hardware and the gorillions of DLC you need for an enjoyable experience

Yeah. Out of literally every single genre of video game ever made, triggers are literally ONLY useful for "simcade" racers which are simmy enough that throttle control matters but not simmy enough to require a proper setup. That's it. And for every single other genre triggers are shit and worse to have on controllers than proper buttons.
