You aren't actually bored. You're on 4chan, which is designed to give you instant gratification. Even if you feel miserable and can't enjoy anything that doesn't mean you're bored so long as cheap sources of dopamine are in your life. You need to legit turn off all electronics and just sit in a dark room for a few hours to reset yourself.

bouldering/climbing, playing instruments, producing music (ableton), sound engineering, photography, visual design (photoshop, illustrator, touchdesigner), coding, gym (if you wanna count that), writing (started recently). I also love hiking as i live in a beautiful mountainous country, but that barely qualifies as a hobby in my culture.

find a creative outlet to sink your time into. then, when you play vidya it'll be more enjoyable because 1) you feel more satisfied with yourself and 2) the media you consume inspires you to create in turn.
I myself started writing again, just a couple pages a week, and find myself enjoying vidya as I haven't in a long time.

i did gamedev for several years which ranged from modding for different games to using game engines. this hobby involved me learning everything, coding, drawing, composing music, the editors. in the end all of it amounted to nothing except that now i can talk about these things. whenever i got inspired to go back and make something my brain would make me feel like it's a waste of time now.

Download space hulk deathwing

I felt the same earlier today and I had to ask myself 'why do i act like im so fucking discerning' as a kid i played whatever i got from my parents or friends. So i got space hulk deathwing (certified hood classic), star wars galactic battlegrounds and man o war corsairs (warhammer pirate mount and blade) and theyre all fucking good. And guess what? I'm not asking anyone if theyre good. I'm not going to debate you if you say they look like shit. I'm going to play them. Playing any game is better than sitting here. Dude this board is fucking unuseable lately. Just pick something. Or get space hulk. It has multiplayer.

everything is a waste of time, you will die and be forgotten no matter if you 'merely' modded some of your favorite vidya or became head of the biggest game studio in the world and created the next big thing in the industry.
i'm not saying happiness is everything and legacy doesn't matter, i don't have all the answers. All I know is that when I create I feel like I exist in the world and I seem to look on things with a new, fresh light. I feel more motivated and am open to try new things.
It may be a waste of time but I think that one ounce of creation outweighs a pound of consumption.

it's great to be goal oriented, but does that mean that eventually what you do feels like work?
like, do you enjoy modding, but when you fail to meet a goal (i say this because you previously mentioned you have nothing to show for your efforts), do you stop enjoying the modding itself?
it's understandable to want to see the fruits of your efforts, but sometimes the mere act of creation can be the gift in and of itself.

i see what you mean. that makes sense when i think about it.

hypnagogia is great, I think it's too bad the creator relies more on nostalgia bait because his own original ideas are good enough on their own

There's actually model building contests. If you git gud enough you might be able to make something good enough to submit, maybe even win. Shit, you might even get your shit featured in magazines with enough practice.

Posting on 4chan is about the lowest commitment to dopamine hit you could possibly get. Playing a game means you have to actually muster some form of effort. Shitposting is just typing faggot or some other slur and ragebaiting.
It's actively frying your brain and nobody can escape it even if you know it's happening.

Tell me about it, too many games ive played recently accrue a stacking debuff the longer youre away from them. I made the mistake of getting dragged into marvel rivals competitive with my coworkers. Now i cant play it casually because i can tell im playing like shit after 2 weeks away from it.

sometimes I do too. that's when I switch to a different story idea. sometimes when I get bored with writing altogether I just draw a little bit (i'm not good at all) or paint miniatures.
I was just like OP and that feeling can be so fucking depressing. to grind your soul out all week at work/chores etc, working just to do what you enjoy, only to have no motivation at the end of it all.
I used alcohol and weed to help me regain that enjoyment and motivation for playing, but it only made it worse overtime, and I had to become sober and start all over. it was hard to face that necessity.
anyway, thanks for reading my blog and thanks for the conversation anon

you know what you might be onto something here. i noticed that my enjoyment of video games and IRL friends has decreased once i found this place. i remember laughing like i never laughed in years browsing this place which kept me coming back for more. is it really as simple as just leaving this place for good?

I'm sorry anon I will see you around this joint, at work rn and my turnover is coming in.
good luck to you on your hobby, remember that art doesn't imitate life, it IS life. Whenever you even get the tiniest inkling of desire to open your modding software or have the vaguest idea, make sure to pounce on it! Even if you do it for five minutes that makes a big difference in your mind/psyche, I promise you.

Anon! Play the custom 1 starcraft campaign called Starcraft Alternative! It's all the original missions from the game except you get to play as the Opposite race in the campaign missions! It's really fun and challenging

Have you tried emulating or pirating obscure games that aren't on Steam? Downloading pcsx2 and Burnout 3 once got me over how you are feeling right now.

Another trick for game fatigue I have is listening to retroperspectives.
I thought I'd never play Halo CE again (since I had grown to hate it) but after listening to few retroperspectives I got an urge to play it again, so I could appreciate the skyboxes, voice acting, music and story crafting that I kept hearing about, I guess in a sort of an pretentious art snob kinda way.
Only listening to the retroperspective and not watching it is pretty important I think, because someone telling you how good X or Y in a game are makes you want to check it out while someone showing you those things will just make you think "yep, it sure looks like it".
Also instead of just running through the game with the knowledge I have, I try to put myself into the shoes of someone who had never played the game before, which can sometimes lead to finding new ways of approaching encounters, appreciating scenery, and noticing new details in the level.
