If the race tracks were replaced with traditional Crash levels it'd probably be one of the better games in the series, you already spend more time in the game doing platforming than racing. If I remember correctly, you can beat the game without even touching more than a couple race tracks.

It's weird how this was made by the Simpsons Hit & Run studio, yet the driving feels much worse

I wouldn't have minded a third Crash game developed by them. Wrath of Cortex and Twinsanity were enjoyable for me.

No, it isn't. Tag Team is genuinely fun to play though it takes a bit of time to get used to the aesthetic of the game and the attachment mechanic during the races.

The racing is not fun because its way too easy if you have a gunner since you are showered in instakill items to fire at others which rewards you with more turbo.
The racing itself doesn't have enough depth, you just take the most generous powerslide ever and don't even use it for a drift boost it just charges the turbo button that fills when you break shit.
If it had more complex driving mechanics the tracks would have been more interesring than being shooting galleries for the destruction race modes.
It doesn't have the substance to stack up with the pedigree that crash team racing has, adding tag into the title was a really bold move

I personally think the racing while unique doesnt fit Crash at all. And lets be honest even if they were going for the whole “low-budget, decaying theme park” angle the tracks just arent fun or memorable. Thats not even getting into the artistic direction the franchise took thanks to Radical trying to turn Crash into a mix of Happy Tree Friends, The Simpsons and Billy and Mandy.
