Where can video games go from now?
It feels like everything has been done before and the only thing left to do are minor refinements on stuff created earlier.
It's kinda like with Hollywood being in a slump today for similar reasons.

I've said it before, nowadays it's not very relevant or worth pointing out that a game doesn't have a unique or original story, or if it has gameplay similar to another game etc, there are a lot of established genres and a lot of stories have been told, one should think that games can still take you by surprise like before at this point, a game that may not remind you of somethin else you've played is becoming more and more rare.

With that said, I recommend the Katamari games, The Hopping Girl Kohane games and Child of Eden, if you haven't played one Katamrai game and/or the other games I mentioned, I recommend them, there's nothing like those games out there.

Kill children. I don't understand what exactly is taboo about it since you kill adults all the time.
