Just play Undertale and Deltarune. They took what Earthbound tried to do and did it better and you don't have to play through a 50 hour long game.

you can literally beat the SNES game over a 3 day weekend with like 3 hour sessions and a lunch break. what do you mean? I still don't think the first title on NES is worth playing due to limitations of the hardware. Mother 3 is delightful but also only like 20 some hours long if you aren't trying to like get perfect combos on every enemy.
I started playing it again on the switch and put like an hour into it every month I'm about to get to scaraba. I think I forgot to do all the sanctuary locations. They left out that they are kind of optional. You can get out of magicant with like what 3 or something and just don't get huge stat boosts. That would explain why when I rented it as a child I couldn't do anything in the final area.
