Oh it's so good for me right alongside Mario RPG and Metal Warriors as games that I missed out on, but still held up playing them decades later. I really should go through the wiki and scout some more games that I've missed.

Thought it was boring as fuck, like three basic enemy types to fight, a boss, then a new world that's just a sprite/palette change with a shop keeper who upgrades your weapons such that the next batch of stronger enemies are exactly the same in practice. I dropped it around the part where a baby goat falls down a cliff and gets lost/abandoned or something.

>The underworld in the game is concave, I think.
The underworld is built along the hollow-earth theory: its sky is pointing inwards towards the center of the earth.
The thing in the center of the cover is actually *NOT* where the final boss fight takes place.
The final boss fight takes place inside the sun.

The sphere depicted in the cover is the reincarnation chamber. It's where the continents of the true earth sleep, unreachable by Dark Gaia's hands directly - even in the middle of its domain. ("The light inside the darkness," it's all very poetic.)

He reincarnates as a bird. The ending of the game literally has him fly across the world, until he lands in Light-Elle's village and pecks at her door, to be let in.

Yes. It adjusts some of the timing of the dialogues, which means if you use the 60Hz patch to make the game run at 60 again, it causes some cut-off in e.g. dialogue presented on screen in passive subtitle format - like the dolls before Bloody Mary doing their childrens rhyme.

That theory is correct. The game literally states Ark and everyone else are duplicates created from crystal who, at the end of the game, are 'returned to true form' by Dark Gaia.

Post Dark Gaia's defeat, Light Gaia cannot sustain the spell because it cannot affect the underworld's crystals. It can keep it going for just a bit longer, like a terminal patient on life-support, but it cannot fix it being undone.

That's why eventually Ark is scooped up and his soul reimplanted into a bird by Light Gaia. He gets his true final wish, in the moment's of his final death: to see the world, the whole world, that he fought for flourish.

The theory also went on to state that dark Ark, who started as another one of Dark Gaia's puppets, actually managed to gain true humanity through his journey. Which each major event marking a step along that journey. I forget the details, so you'll have to look it up yourself, if you want it all explained. He did. You literally see him go through a meta-phoric rebirth sequence at the hero's grave, to be reborn as Light-Ark aka 'The Hero' and merge with the original's soul. The problem is his body originally came from Dark Gaia and that aspect still lingers like a cancer, which is why his body ends up dying either way. But its the reason Light Gaia can still save his soul, after.

IIRC, the gameplay does run slower but the music was re-timed to play properly at 50hz (this is also probably why some dialogue timings are adjusted). It's really obvious during the intro sequence for instance, when it gets to the part where the clock is the only thing on the screen and the 13th hours shows up, it's supposed to be silent, but if you use the 60hz patch, the music will be behind and still playing.

So if you use the 60hz patch, things will be mistimed but I imagine if you're just playing it at 60hz on actual hardware with an unpatched rom, you won't have the same issue but the music will be faster while still being in sync.

Correct. Except the pitch on all the sound will be off. Honestly, if you're playing on original hardware anyway - just play it at 50 Hz and use an upscaler to perform 50-to-60 conversion if you must.
