A hitman style school sim really doesn't sound that ludicrously complicated that it'd take years and years forever to make. It's a lot of character schedules to set up and environmental interactions, but you could tell it was over when he spent more time chatting with the peanut gallery and adding meme easter eggs than knuckling down and getting shit down.

Because if you want to make a career out of it you need to eventually move on to other projects. Very few people get away with infinite patreon milking and Yandere Dev is proof of that. He honestly got away with more than most would. On top of that if you do actually care about your creative work, you don't want to work on the same thing forever. A lot of people get burned out working on the same thing for years. It's easier to avoid that and keep making a living if you diversify your projects early and get people following you for you and not one project.
