the first one is cool in a kind of minimalist systemic game designerly way. it achieves "survival gameplay" without getting bogged down with too many bloated systems. the "push the crate" type puzzles are weirdly effective in this context
the plot is pretty lame though and the emotional beats didn't land for me at all

the first game is good when u remember it was a ps3 title. it had really great graphics soldi polished gameplay, and it released at the perfect moment in time when everyone was obsessed with zombies and the walking dead, etc. the first games success made a lot of sense even if i personally think the game is just "okay"
