Why do most cyberpunk-themed games NEVER actually play it straight when it comes to the noir feel associated with the genre? Every other game tries so hard to subvert the aesthetic, that the dimly-lit neon-filled streets associated with the genre become a rare sight. Pic unrelated

Perpetually thinking noir is passe, while not realizing gimmicks and 'subverting" have become the actual passe.
also noir needs good dialogue, and westoids have no clue how to write anymore.

I love cyberpunk threads because everyone's extremely opinionated about it despite never having read the foundational novel of the genre, Neuromancer. If you can't remember the first line of the novel, you get to have no say on the supposed aesthetic of the genre.

I own neuromancer and it's nothing to brag about.
it'd flop if it were released anytime after.
i do agree about knowing your history/foundations though.

What are some other good cyberpunk books? I've read Snow Crash, which I think was better than Neuromancer in a lot of ways despite being a retarded shitpost of a book.

The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel.

cyberpunk sucked ass. Shadowrun is better. Trans people are technically the cause of the cyberpunk making all the tranime lovers ironic

>shadowrun is better
How? The only difference is that one shoves elves and orcs into the setting. And that's gay.

Shadowrun is like if someone took cyberpunk, dumped a bag of D&D sprinkles on top, and said “yeah this counts.” It’s entertaining in a kitchen sink way, but if you’re talking aesthetic and mood-it’s clown shoes compared to Neuromancer. Elves doing deck runs? Come on, man. That’s not gritty dystopia, that’s LARPing with a cyberdeck.

It's not just a cyberpunk thing, it's like it's borderline impossible to make things look dirty and abandoned with today's overly-polished graphics.
