>you can’t just release server files
>muh security
>you’ll get hackz0r
>muh 4chan 1337 h@k3R viruses
You bottoms who just want to get your balloon knot stuffed by mega corps here’s Unreal Tournament 99 still active today on openspy, never had a single issue.

Modern devs look open this mystic ancient technology and despair. Apparently when Graham Hancock talks about ancient civilization and lost technology he meant 1990s game devs who are actually competent at their jobs and server executables. Apparently modern game devs are just sub human IQ levels of worthless

>but muh propriety libraries

>law is enforced
> all future games must comply
>comply with the law or get aaa blasted by eu prosecutors or lose out on a half a billion user market

See that problem solved devs either comply with the law or get assblasted. Not my problem

You're missing the point. Games have a tech stack that they need to setup an environment for, including server infrastructure and such. You can give out all the tools for this to the average normie, but they won't be able to use them. If all of this cannot launch and work by pressing "play" on Steam, then it would violate the guideline because it needs to have the maximum of accessibility for even the most legally retarded fuck. Back then and now it works because you have people writing guides for you, making mods and scripts to do everything for you, but without being beholden to any laws that require a maximum of conformity. Like most dev tools by themselves are incomprehensible and tailored to developers, but not the average normie

Yeah sure, just ignore the years of servers with RCE exploits that were the primary cause of updates, including the community ones made after Epic finally handed the source over to a trusted community dev.

Devs are retarded. Anything they can use, we can use.

Ok? It's not law yet, you can't nitpick the level of accessibility required.

>maximum of accessibility
fanfiction, the initiative calls for a reasonable amount of accessibility. as long as the game is still playable and not destroyed, some amount to get it to work is acceptable.

but why not make it work? seems simple enough if you are a competent developer and already works with that technology
>You can give out all the tools for this to the average normie, but they won't be able to use them.
it's not for the average normie, it's for the average nerd who cares about hosting a server for the game.

It was not like that, was it? I don't think people that hosted servers for UT had high level tools

Soldier of Fortune is one of the more famous cases, but there's certainly others including most any Quake based game, which ended up with a known Remote Code Execution issue in its final client version
In effect this meant that anyone who connected to a malicious private server would effectively get their entire computer hacked immediately. The only way to fix this is by updating the game client, which isn't always possible. For SOF specifically this means you should only be playing with a custom modded client like SOFPlus as it fixes the exploit.

For good reason. What happens when the majority of the players on your server are assholes?
They're just gonna voteban all the good players, those good people aren't gonna come back again, and your server is dead. All just because a bunch of assholes joined the server at just the right moment when there wasn't a decent amount of good players on it.

absolutely retarded take, providing everything that is needed to do it yourself and doing it for someone are two different things. Just because you're too dumb to RTFM doesn't mean they didn't make it possible.

mentally ill retards have become way more common in Gmod and other similiar games nowdays.
10 years ago it was nowhere this bad and actual assholes were usually bullied off for good or had actual mods.

By the time of EoS and private servers, the only people sticking around are veterans and committed fans of the game, and they have a stronger sense of community regarding disruptive people.
Trolls and shitters can only stick around for so long until they get bored and move to newer games, while unhinged schizos can be identified easier. Also :>>714610758
