Has gaming ruined public interest in Chess? Why play with wooden pieces that can only move a few tiles when you could build empires and armies in the Civ series?
>>714607157 I've never been able to play any sort of competitive strategy game competently even board games

Twitter screencaps should be a two week ban. Even the furry threads have more on-topic and genuine video game discussion. Twitter threads are 100% politicized bait and astroturfing.
He may not look it but this man is in the top 0.5%
>>714607157 I think chess up to a point is a intelligence thing, like the top 10% are probably above 100 IQ. For the top few hundred chess players though then it becomes more about memorizing decades worth of strategy/openings.

>>714607157 Same, I'm terrible at any kind of strategy game that requires me to think multiple moves ahead. I just can't see every possible move.
>>714608257 He doesn't even play those games either. Like in tesla he just pays some jeet to do all the work while he claims all the credit. I'm not even convinced he can even drive a car
>>714607016 (OP) Elon based Chess is boring as fuck I'd rather watch football instead, I hate sports

>>714609829 You have to learn basics first. Like in boxing you have to keep a guard up, you have to maintain a structure to your pieces. Once you do that you can start recognizing when your opponent fails to do so, and the openings become clearer.
>>714611036 Maybe you took longer to beat before because no one understood what you were doing, but you were still ultimately easier to beat

Elon is a fag but he's right that chess is boring in comparison to plenty of modern strategy games. I still teach it to children and would find it entertaining enough in an apocalypse scenario without electricity, but the identical openings on an identical board every single time is 10 times more grating than any RTS mirror match.

>>714607016 (OP) This is the man who thinks Polyopia is the greatest game ever made. Civilization is too advanced for him.
>>714611036 Sometimes overthinking is as bad as underthinking when it comes to learning. Just look up a basic opener for each side and focus on at least kinda following the opener while not hanging pieces and picking off the pieces the other dude hangs. Playing games and getting shitstomped is just part of the process because all the basic shit is something you need to practice more than memorize.

>>714607016 (OP) I lost interest as a teen because it's 95% memorizing openings and counters and planning 5+ turns ahead. I don't enjoy that.

>>714607157 Somehow everybody I play plays really well while I blunder like a retard But the truth is, they're at my elo, they're all equally as bad as me, I just don't notice their fuckups as much as I notice mine
