Yes anon, World has tracks where there are tons of different routes you can take. The reality is grinding on rails has its own drawbacks. You're far more likely to be targeted and have no where to run. If you take the most popular shortcuts, you're going to get blown the fuck out because people are going to punish you for going the same route as them. So you need to mix the routes you take and realize grinding that rail is not a ticket to victory. It has its own risks that aren't always worth the fraction of a second it might shave off from your overall time.

Skill expression means the extent to which a person that is good at the game can actually capitalize on that skill. So for instance, in a Mario Kart track that was just a straight line, you wouldn't have much skill expression because the optimal way to drive it would be just to hold A in a straight line better than other people. Rail jumping is a form of skill expression. If you've played World, you'd understand how volatile rail grinding and jumps can be. You don't just immediately magnetize to the rails like a Smash 4/Ultimate characters does to the ledge. It's more like Smash 64 where if you don't precisely hit that ledge you just miss it and die.

Not only that, but the rails do add a large degree of skill expression since they're often times faster than taking tight turns on the road, but you can't get back on when you fall off, you can be bumped off by anyone else who takes the rails, and items will follow the rails basically turning them into shell magnets. They add a large degree of risk/reward to racing and are fairly difficult themselves (depending on the stage of course).

This board amazes me sometimes with how stupid it is. Yet again, even if you had good intentions and was open minded you can't really understand how easy or hard something is just by looking at webm. I thought the skip on great block ruins was hard before trying it and realizing it is actually very forgiving with a huge window of error worst case scenario you land on the cloud, but that FUCKING WALL ON THE LEFT from op post driving me crazy.
