the culmination of the action platformer and collectathon genres combined
it hits both parts of your ape brain, the "numbers go up" part (score) and the "satisfying reactivity" part (sound effects, goal completion, level design), the music is universally bangin', the physics are so pristine you can go back to the PS1 games and they still feel perfect, there's an internal irreverence and sense of humor that most games lack these days, your prize for 100% completion is either hot chicks or the developers breaking bones on half pipes
tl;dr: neversoft was the last truly soulful company and every tony hawk game they touched is at minimum good and at maximum some of the best pure video game experiences ever made

It's a sport which fits well to videogames. Snowboarding is mostly just going fast, but with skating you can make all kinds of tricks and grinds which activate the dopamine.
