Keep playing, you'll eventually unlock a case file that unlock her, you cannot miss it.
Just know that you actually unlock it early, you'll need to grind to level 66 to for Belial because you need both Nebiros and Belial for her quest.
Nebiros is a story unlock btw, you need to defeat him to unlock him for fusion but he cannot be missed.

How'd you do that? I feel like raising shitmons up takes multiple playthroughs because of the necessity of incense to get past stat caps.

All skills and passive are farmable, you can just save scum when a demon is near a level up and reset if they don't give you a skill book.
All demon will always give you the same skill books: one active skill (80% the skill they have by default when they join you) and their passive that unlock when they reach max loyalty.
For example, if you want to give phys resist to Mermaid, you can save scum Hayataro or Yoshitsune until they give you the skill book.
If you can't be arsed to do that, you can just do the usual fusion spree at the end of the game to have a Mermaid will all passives, you even get a message from Victor whenever you fuse a demon that have all passives.
Note that you will still need to farm active skills book to replace the 3 default skills she learn.
Incense can be farmed indefinitely once you clear all Aril Rift: each full clear after the first will give you 2 of each incenses.
Alternatively you can just use the DLC.

I stopped playing because Death Stranding 2 came out and I wanted to view this board without thumbnail faggots spoiling everything. Just getting back into it today though, fucking love this game. Never played anything Atlus other than a few SMT games and Metaphor but this is a nice spin-off. I've been really wanting to try smt4 after I beat raidou. I just hate that its a 3ds game. I doubt it, just due to the nature of SMT IV's demons being literal JPGs. I don't think that shit flies in modern day on consoles that aren't handhelds.

Just dive in, in my opinion it's the best SMT game and you won't regret it.

5 is a direct continuation of 3, and in 3 Raidou is canonically involved. So it's not like it's a stretch by any means.

Well it matters regarding how Raidou dabbles with artificial humans and androids because it explains why the game doesn't really go into real depth with the proton-fiend thing, because it's explained in Raidou. I also wonder if this means the poster will become more than an easter egg and become an actual cameo. Does that also mean we know the previous Susano-o is Kaneko Susano-o? I'm not sure since it's Raido's timeline though.

Kind of. You can run around for an hour and collect the same things, you just speed up the process. All SMT games and this one you need to be careful of overleveling or grinding too many drops or the game gets too easy.

Just remember that each game bring their share of QoL, and going back can sometimes be difficult because of the lack of said QoL.

The demons, spells, drops are pretty much the same. But the combat is action instead of turn based. You get two demons and they are controlled by the computer. I like that the gameplay is different. I think it is good for Atlus to have games with different types of gameplay with demons and fusion.

The setting and story is pretty good.
