Frontiers is unironically one of the worst mainline Sonic titles. The only ones I'd rank as worse are 06, Secret Rings, Black Knight, Lost World, and Forces. I don't give a shit if it made Sonic more popular. As a long time fan, it disappoints me that people (read: tourists) like it and even more disappointed that the shitty open zone gimmick is likely staying.
Same thing with how BOTW probably ruined Zelda's future for a long time. I fucking hate tourists.
Shadow Gens is good, I'll give you that, but a good part in that is that it doesn't play like Frontiers.

Unstoppable? Sonic has been living off Nostalgia Farts as early as the first Sonic Generations. Once a franchise starts milking old glory that's the sign that the franchise is stagnant and starting to die. Sonic has been on a spam of Nostalgia Farts for over ten years and once they run out of Nostalgia Farts its game over for the franchise.

Sonic Frontiers may have sold well but many fans agree its clearly half baked. Once the movies fail which are reheated nostalgia Sonic will start fizzling out yet again. And this time they've used up all the Nostalgia Farts so its diminishing returns. Hell if they made another Sonic Mania which is another nostalgia fart it would probably sell worse than Sonic Superstars.

Sonic doesn't have anywhere fresh to go.

God no I hated that game. The gameplay was shoddy and the story is embarrassingly bad. Also about the presentation I've seen fans do better Source Filmmaker animated scenes using the Sonic models. How the cut scenes looked in Sonic Frontiers is terrible, looked worse than Sonic Adventure 2's scenes. Think the only reason Sonic Frontiers sold well is because the Sonic Movies 1 and 2 being successful boosted the sales of Sonic Frontiers meaning lots of naive kids bought the game blindly.

But from what I hear we may see the cancellation of the IDW Sonic Comic much sooner than expected, seems its really starting to not sell as well to justify getting the Sonic license. And the Sonic Movies are bound to lose steam thanks to the new one being about Amy's Feminism Girl Boss Shit.

So whatever honeymoon Sonic has enjoyed in recent times it seems to be coming to an end. That leaves the games and we know those are hit and miss.

Yes indeed. This entire every game being open world shit has become a real nuisance. I like each genre of gaming having its own constructed limitations I don't want to see open world shit. And I blame Grand Theft Auto 3 since its the icon that started this type of game design. Now many franchises are trying to adapt open world to many genres. And it turns me off. Few genres are able to be shielded from this trend, such as fighting games.
