Is it really true that Switch 1 games run better but look worse due to screen resolution differences on this thing? Can any anons confirm?

Games that have a lower resolution will obviously look worse on a screen with a higher one.
Games that had dynamic resolutions look better, however.

Depends a lot on the game.
Switch 1 games had a 720p max resolution, which doesn't scale linearly to the 1080p resolution of the Switch 2 screen, which can lead to some of them looking a bit blurrier than they may on the Switch 1's screen.
There are a couple games that did attempt to render at 1080p portable on the Switch 1 (with no real benefit due to the actual screen resolution), and those now look great on the Switch 2. For example, Hyrule Warriors DE ran at 1080p on handheld which was awful due to it killing performance and battery life, but now looks great portably without the need of a patch.

If you have a 1080p monitor and set a game to run in 1280x720 full-screen it also looks like shit.
That's what's happening between Switch 1 and 2.
But it will look worse because most 3D games on Switch 2 are closer to 540p and sometimes lower, so it's already looking blurry from going 720p->1080p via upsambling (pixels being put through a bilinear filter) and having a lower internal res on top of that.
The only game you truly benefit from is Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition. It actually runs at 1080p in handheld mode by accident, so on Switch 2 it looks clean af and runs way better too.

No they won't. Internally, yes. They'll cap at 540p more consistently, but 540p->720p upsampled to 1080p looks worse than just 540p->720p natively on a 720p screen.
It looks like playing Nintendo DS games on your 3DS. They don't look nearly as nice as on the DS screen, and the only way to map the pixels to the screen natively is to start GameChat. It resizes the game window to be pixel-perfect.

Wow I didn't even think of that. So not only is the screen not OLED, have ghosting issues, and half the battery life because of a 120hz meme, Switch 1 ganes are rendered at 720p and stretched to 1080p making them look worse than the did on the switch.
Yeah this one is a wait for v2 console foe sure.

What in the fuck are you talking about dude? Did you have a stroke after typing your first sentence then come back to finish it with an unrelated tangent? What does having a 1080p monitor have anything to do with your assessment of Hyrule Warriors running in portable mode? The fuck is wrong your brain?
>3D games on Switch 2 are closer to 540p and sometimes lower,
The fuck does this mean??? Do you mean Switch 2 native games like Mario Kart World run at sub 1080p native then get DLSS, is that what you meant to say before you had a stroke? Some games like Cyberpunk run at 720p before being upscaled back up with DLSS.

You know. Like. The. RTX. 4090. And a bunch of RTX graphic cards, do you know that's what DLSS does on PC too? Same with AMD FSR. This feature set that video card cards companies won't stop advertising, they all render below 1080p at times depending on how aggressive the user sets it. The RTX 3060-4060-5060 all rely very hard on DLSS just to play games which are all rendering at your 540p resolution you so pointed out at Switch 2.

Since you're talking about portable mode, I don't know because I've never used it. I can tell you that Switch games with an unlocked framerate that haven't gotten patched will run at 30 or 60FPS. There are some bizzare cases like the Ubisoft first Rayman Rabbids Mario game, it had a Double V-Sync and always ran at 30 on Switch 1. But on Switch 2, without any patches, this double V-Sync enables it to run at 60FPS which is an unexpected surprise.

So performance wise all Switch 1 games do just run better, patch or not patched. Smash Bros Ultimate loads all the costumes on the character select right right away. There are tons of little changes like that because the CPU and GPU are stronger. The load times for now are faster due to decompression being a CPU task, digital games load faster and so do cartridges. In terms of load speed is Switch 2 digital > Switch 1 or 2 cartridges > Switch 1 digital or carts.

Speaking of Hyrule Warriors, the Koei-Tecmo Warrior games licensed by Nintendo should get a patch called "Balanced Switch 2", which takes the Quality and Performance modes into one. The more recent games should take advantage of this like Fire Emblem 3 Hopes and Zelda Age of Calamity.

The laziest option would be for a global setting be created called "Switch 1 Portable Games Use TV profile" in your menu. As it says, every Switch game running backwards compatibility in handheld mode would be using its Switch 1 TV profile setting. Mario Odyssed used to run at 30FPS on Switch 1 portable, while in TV it would be variable 60FPS.
