I downloaded a fuck ton of gacha games to my phone for "research purposes". I've yet to play any of them and am saving them for a rainy day where i'm stranded somewhere with only my phone. I want to understand what makes these games so addicting to everyone. I have a vague idea of what drives it, mostly coombait, but I need to see more of the systems in play and how they trick people into wasting all this money.

The thing is gachas are also popular with wage slaves in these asian countries. Japanese guys only have time to play on their phones during their lunch breaks or on their commute to and from work. Gacha allows them to do that. When they get home from their job they're too tired to boot up their goystation and stick with the simple phone game that is always on their person.

And here's the other interesting thing. These guys have a lot of disposable income because most of them are single and don't have families to raise. They're not playing other games and they're not buying other consoles, so that justifies them spending money on the gacha game which is the only game they have time to play. They don't have anything else in their life that makes them happy or give them meaning in between the miserable work hours. This game is their relief, as mindless and seedy as it is. That's why they don't mind gambling to get their waifu, because to them there is value in this game, more than others.

They're content with renting a cheap apartment and using the leftover cash to roll in their favorite gacha game.
