It's the best PS1 game and the best RE game so yes it's absolutely worth playing.

It's the awkward middle child of the RE trilogy. It leans on action much more than 1, but without really improving combat much. Exploration is much worse than 1 and much more linear, but it doesn't have the fact pace of 3 either.
It's a good game but 1 is the better survival horror exploration game, and 3 is the better action game. But it also has a great setting, Leon and Claire are probably the best MCs of the PS1 RE games, and the story is the best of the trilogy, so it's absolutely worth playing.
