I dig it. Peace Walker is something that clicked at that point in my life, but I recognize does a LOT of things very anti metal gear. Portable Ops was mechanically superior and going "back" was fucking awful. The base building mechanics is another layer of WTF that can detour the story hard. And lastly the T rating neuters the tone. Metal Gear Acid had more of an edge than Peace Walker did.

Kojima started to make mid games with Mgs4 but he hit true rock bottom with MgsV, MgsV was the catalyst that made the entire videogame industry realize that open world games are the best way to make a shit story work by connecting it by loose fitting missions all arround a big ass map
