Definitively, the faces for the HIGH POLY models are better. The animations for the faces are better. But damn near everything else is better in the hd release.
Wide screen, cleaner menus, cleaner UI.
The low poly models in the ps2 version look fucking horrid, and low poly models are used the most compared to the high poly models.

There are some lighting effects ruined in the hd, but also some improved. The giant mech playing drums at the very start has no lighting effects on him on ps2 (possoble emulation issue, the way 95% of you would play it) but its perfectly fine in the hd release.
You also would assumedly want to play the internation version if emulated, which has a barely done english patch where a vast majority of lines are either missing or not translated and only bare minimum ui aspects are emulated.
I genuinely think the hd port is the best way to play this game, but its unfortunate that it is.
