How come the US (or even the West in general) hasn't been successful in the console market? When you think about it it's kind of strange to think how large it is compared to Japan and yet Japs have dominated consoles ever since the third gen. Literally the only serious non-Japanese console brand was Xbox, but they're going to shit right now. Sega, Sony, and Nintendo were all also able to penetrate into global markets outside Japan very effectively but Xbox has only ever really done well in the US while doing poorly in both Japan and Europe. Why is this? It's not like the West is just historically bad at games or something because it's dominated PC gaming, but when it comes to consoles Japanese companies have far outweighed American/Western ones for 40 years.

Microsoft used to be a huge competitor with the Xbox 360 buttttttt Americunts always let their greed & stupidity take over.
>Xbox One has a higher initial price than the PS4
>The game sharing restrictions and online only controversy
>Shitty forgettable Xbox One exclusives
Who the fuck thought this was a good idea? It’d take a retard to fuck this up. This is the same failed marketing that destroyed the PS3 and made the Xbox 360 a direct competitor in the first place.

How come? Have you been watching these fucking circus clowns?

Corporate greed and lack of clear vision. First, Microsoft made a secondary subscription service so that people would have to pay again to play their games online, even if they already pay for internet. Second, they treated their best developer Bungie like children for 10 years and constantly tried to tell them what should be in their Halo games, until eventually Bungie left. Then, the whole Don Mattrick fiasco happened with Xbox One which killed any goodwill that Microsoft had going into the gen 8 console wars. Then, they killed full-time positions to save money and made developers only work as temporary contractors, forcing them to constantly leave before projects were finished and have to try to find work elsewhere. Then, they put women in charge of making Halo games.

This is all before Microsoft was sold to pajeets.

Long term success as in making up a solid share of the market for several generations and not being at a clear last place or unprofitable. If Microsoft kept up the pace after the 360 I probably wouldn't be making this thread (although Japs would still have a bigger presence than Western companies overall, there would still be a strong American contender) but I would not consider the Xbone or Series X/S successful enough. They were obviously mogged by the PS4 and the PS5 and Switch.

my guess would be the timing.
nintendo and sony have the advantage of being older and Japanese, with Sony's respective roots being even older than Microsoft's.
Nintendo had more time to carve out its niche and solidify, while Sony was able to compete with Microsoft (the newer challenger) while avoiding American cultural issues spilling over to its employees. They were able to choose the stable path and weather their issues more effectively.

Ultimately Sony and Xbox as consoles are merely fractions of their respective titans.
What we watched during the console wars era was something akin to a thumb war, and there are a lot of outside things going on that will effect the companies employees and leaders.

PS3 was such a complete flop that Sony hired Mark Cerny to make AMD PCs

PS4 and PS5 are a fully locked down x86_64 device, it doesn't even have UEFI and uses sony's proprietary bootloader

Sony & AMD collaborated on developing the FSR4 that's going to be patched into the PS5 Pro in the future.
Whether Sony will continue using FSR4 for the PS6 or move on to FSR5/PSSR2 is uncertain.

Xbox was always a means to an end. Microsoft feared that consoles would supplant the PC as the centre of home computing so they entered the market to fight Sony and Nintendo. In the end smart phones and tablets supplanted the PC for the casual user and MS had already lost in that field so Xbox had no purpose left, especially with consoles moving to x86 architecture and the death of console exclusives.

halo 4 didn't even sell as much as reach did, the online numbers plummeted when people found out how shit the game was and word of mouth spread.
I wouldn't call 343 killing the halo name a good job. Halo went from a console seller to a shitty cod clone most people weren't interested in buying. They objectively did a horrible job with the franchise, the games just aren't good, and them not being console movers is why xbox is selling their games on playstation now.

The sales didn't decrease by a lot and most people didn't notice the changes in gameplay. Only huge Halofags care about them.
> and them not being console movers is why xbox is selling their games on playstation now.
Not really. Xbox started flopping because of Xbone's launch and because there is no reason to own an Xbox in 2025.

If you radically want to change the story / formula. You don't need the master chief for it. They spent all that money to build up his re-introduction. Shouldn't they have made a FUCKING GAME ABOUT IT INSTEAD?
You already had ODSTs and there is so much lore you would want to work on like the restoration of humanity / relationships with an enemy that should be falling apart. At least 1 fucking game before reintroducing Chief into a new campaign with new threats and showing off what you are capable of.

I know this is bait but you sound like a corpo who cannot understand the importance of tentpole properties to a company.
Cashing in of a franchise to get a quick buck when its role is to support the entire market ecosystem around it and you have no replacement in place is a bad idea.
Which is what they did.
Also
>What new fanbase? No one likes Halo 4, 5 and Infinite.
Which is true, but practice breeds improvement. There is a world where they stuck to their guns with Halo 4 even after the community hated it, in their development of Halo 5 and in turn refined and improved what existed in 4 so that when new people play who lack to experience with the Bungie games the product they buy is still good and they becomes fans of the nu-halo.
Not that I want that, but purely from a market move things take time to grow.

Entertainment is dictated by culture and what has US culture been about especially during the beginning of console gaming? Political correctness such as...

Feminism
Multiculturalism and diversity
Degenerate lifestyles like homo shit

And this standard progressively continuously got worse in entertainment media. Western gaming notably affected.

Because of this western gaming gained a negative stigma of being shittier and lamer. And if a western gaming series starts out decent eventually it will be poisoned by this toxic culture of Jewish Funded Shit. Most recent example is Doom's latest game having an annoying ugly mannish looking woman who the story says she's stronger than the Doom Slayer. There's your feminism shit right there. Enough fucking said.

The west will never get better until you KILL the Jews funding all this toxic agenda shit.

bad management

xbox buys a billion companies and as such they own all the IP to lots of amazing game series. But as soon as xbox swallows them these companies become completely incapable of shipping any games. And they can't find other studios to make new games for all the IP they're sitting on either, because even if they did they would instantly become unable to ship a game as soon as they come into contact with microsoft's management

microsoft is just a graveyard where successful studios go to get killed by incompetent management

Same as it is with cars. Americans dont know how to make practical and efficient products . American companies and creators are also more individualist(selfish) and have no sense of working collectively to dominate a market. The Japanese on the other hand practically have that embedded into their culture. The end result is collectively the japs just make better games.

ps5 and switch 2 are selling based off sony and nintendo's reputation, which is based on selling good gaymes.
There's a huge overlap between console sales and good gaymes assuming the marketing is fine and your rep already isn't in the gutter.
for microsoft it's too late. Not only was their marketing shit, they had an entire PR disaster with the xbone on TOP of having no gaymes.

The VGChartz numbers were never true, Reach sold globally 7 million copies and over 4 million in the US. Microsoft were never happy with Halo spin-offs which is why they barely made them. They did put it on another test run during the 343 era but that ended with Halo Wars 2 and that arcade game because it burned too much money for them. It's a wonder why Halo's finally on the chopping block. Microsoft was planning to kill it after Reach until Bonnie Ross stepped in.
