How come the US (or even the West in general) hasn't been successful in the console market? When you think about it it's kind of strange to think how large it is compared to Japan and yet Japs have dominated consoles ever since the third gen. Literally the only serious non-Japanese console brand was Xbox, but they're going to shit right now. Sega, Sony, and Nintendo were all also able to penetrate into global markets outside Japan very effectively but Xbox has only ever really done well in the US while doing poorly in both Japan and Europe. Why is this? It's not like the West is just historically bad at games or something because it's dominated PC gaming, but when it comes to consoles Japanese companies have far outweighed American/Western ones for 40 years.
