I'm only ~13 hours in though and have legit only had maybe 3 or 4 encounters with BTs, so I don't know if I just happen to be avoiding them or they're intentionally trying not to frontload the game with them.

First time that happened to me I almost had a panic attack. I got ganked by multiple BTs at once and they dragged me for the first time. That was before I first saw that giant lion thing in the Mama chapter too, so it was my first exposure to the lion. Legit was not ready for that
