Is .44 magnum that common round in russia? I get why they put it for gameplay and aesthetic purpose, but it's just weird for the lore considering it's easier to just keep producing the 9X18mm and 7.62 tokarev instead of making new machine for .44 magnum production. Yeah and the one they use in-game is an actual model - the M203. It launches 40mm grenades that can be loaded with (typically) HE or Smoke and very rarely giant buckshot rounds or sabots. Basically every modern assault rifle has some variant of the underbarrel grenade launcher since they're so damn useful.

BF1 probably did the same for me, balance wise in more-realistic games they're a neat idea to contrast the heavier recoiled semi-auto main rifles and encourage spamming enemies with hits (or in the revolvers' case: a faster but low-capacity alternative to lever-actions).

My flimsy headcanon, at least for the weight issue/presumed watercooling jacket on the barrel, is that it's a botched prototype for a relatively cheap/mass-produceable weapon specifically for powered armor soldiers. My only issue with the M5A2's design is the thumbhole stock, that's more of a recreational/target shooting thing than something for a military rifle.
Here's my thoughts - a design that gives you a more standard pistol grip + the stock (in case the carbine has a rear spring like an AR), or one that apes the M1/M2 carbine.

Easy to use and implement. You point at it to things and make holes into them. With swords and such you have options. You could make it simple stab or slash, which is pretty much the same as gun with really short range. Or you could make a flashy animation where your character bounces and makes all kinds of cool tricks but it's far less immersive,you press a button and animation happens. Yeah back in 20s, 30's and 40s, weapons have evolved since then but still mostly fulfill the same roles. Also lsw and lmg are not the same, one is chambered in the same cartridge as the weapons used by the rest of the squad and is only operated by one person to make things easier on logistics. Light machine guns are usually chambered in a higher caliber and require 2-3 people to operate.

Guns have the fundamental element of making the environment matter.
Melee, magic, even bows, they're all things in games in which you're typically at very close range attacking in an open space, and games focused around them don't get designed around map design that accounts for sightlines, cover, etc (and shooters with bad maps or pithy shooting are very quick duds).
As simple as "point and click" is on the input side, the tactical element of threats being anywhere from right around the corner to hundreds of meters away is vast compared to getting close and doing sword combo or throw fireball. It demands your senses to be heightened, movement to be decisive, and your shots to count or else you get picked off.

I shot from Grot BS16, FN P90 and the best know AUG Steyr, they have double the length of end of buttstock to the trigger from that retarded design and its still too uncomfortable for many.

Velocity transfer drops off like a rock past 12 inches so a short ar is good enough, and you wont be shooting at 1000meters with this crap when it wont go sub 2 moa anyway. The difference in 223 between 2800 and 3000 fps while going from 14 to 18 is negligible, so the "power" claim is laughable.
