Best game in the GRAN TURISMO series?
Want to give this a go finally. Ridge Racer just disappoints me after all the hype, wanna try GT

I read 4 is the best a lot but people are just nostalgiafagging right? Is Is 5 or 7 the best?

The only thing that always prevented me from giving this series a shot is that it looks very quantity > quality and like it doesn't have a lot of personality and tries too hard to be realistic and mature, maybe factor this into your recommendation

Dunno why they can't just do this + more courses/races and cars. The Career mode interface alone was bueno

GT4 is like GT3 but more everything.
And GT7? The menu campaign is rubbish, you do races by the game's order, every race is very spreaded rolling start, you win cars left and right and can do whole thing with like 10 cars. GT7 have a lot of good content with no fucking clue how to use it. I like gt7 physics, livery editor, photo mode, but campaign is awful.

4 was a good PS2 game. But it's 2025, the series and racing games in general have certainly improved since then. Its over 20 years old now. 7 is great, only people refusing to take off nostalgia goggles would say 4 is better still, and its not just about graphics but also advancements in every aspect of what it can sim from physics to weather

Not really. What a good racing game needs is good track design and tight controls with some deliberate grease factor/oversteer/weight. All things games already had in the 90s and which arguably peaked 20 years ago. You can say graphics are better today but even that's subjective because retro graphics usually leave more to imagination or have better readability in HD

4 has the best career progression, the best UI, and introduced many of the more advanced tuning mechanics the series still uses. Plus, B-Spec mode was insanely addicting.

7 plays, sounds, and (obviously) looks the best. I’m not a fan of their insistence on adding ultramegahyper cars instead of letting you supe up shitboxes like GT1-4. 5 was the downfall of the series in that regard.

I've spent the past week playing the older GGs for the first time and 4 definitely has polish over the ones preceding it, but I've found 3's physics to feel much better.

As I wrap up my 4 playthrough, I've been wondering where to go to next in my big racing game binge I've been on. What I've loved in all these titles has been the extremely deep campaigns and the progression through car history as you have your early hobo mode suping up a used beater from the 80s, to your first real workhorse, to finally getting a racer or professional rally car. Its a great ride. A while back when I hadn't committed to playing GT, I was told to try Dirt Rally 2 because I enjoyed Colin MacRae and... idk I think GT has spoiled me. I didn't like how I just had a roster of DLC cars and a bunch of tracks to immediately jump into - with the focus shifted heavily to online competitive racing.

I don't know where to go from here. Which among Forza Motorsport (I wish I could play the older titles but I've never given Microshit a cent for their Halo boxes), Assetto Corsa, Project Cars, or GT5 or 6 to try next. I'll probably never own a PS5 so GT7 is right out as well.

The Forza Horizon games are a ton of fun. I think only 5 is available anymore, unless you buy used 360/Xbone copies of the rest (the older ones got delisted due to music and car licenses expiring I assume). Otherwise, continue with GT5.

Shift 2 had good campaign too, also I think it's the best game for turning shitboxes into racing cars.
I also enjoyed grid 2 campaign, but game itself have weird physics where everything wants to drift.
