It is. 4's career mode has constantly been the point of derision amongst anyone that's actually stuck with the franchise beyond when they were children. Even amongst others of its kind, THPS4's career mode is a lackluster execution. There are some oldheads that want it to stay in from a preservationist mindset, but basically no one that actually cares about the franchise is pushing for its return under the basis of gameplay.

If anything, people do have a point that they could have included it, but only because 4's career mode was so light and shitty with barebones goals that are mostly individualized classic ones anyways, that it shouldn't be too hard to reimplement something that was so much nothing already.

This. I'll get it on sale but they've added very little to the 1+2 base and removed the story missions. I'd actually would have been more inclined to buy it if it was an expansion pack because then I wouldn't have to hop across games to play different levels.

There's not a whole hell of a lot else they could've done. Everything after 3 was kinda shit in various ways, and the 1+2 remake already added all the good improvements from the later games like reverts.
The only things they can do at this point besides basic map packs is retreading the past by adding shit like off-board sections and driving missions and repeating all the mistakes made in the series back then.
Would it be better if they made more brand new maps instead of just remaking old maps? Perhaps, and hopefully they'll get around to that next, but seeing as how this one's outsourced and the previous devs went into the Call of Duty mines I'm not holding my breath.

I genuinely think it's just people wanting a reason to shit on it. Like I get being upset that it isn't an accurate remake, but... dude it's fucking THPS4 nobody liked that game. It's a no-man's-land game between the tight score attack gameplay of the first 3 and the more open world mission structure of the THUG games onward.
Really I think they shoulda just made a 3 DLC for 1+2 but that ship sailed years ago and I'm basically treating this as a 3 remake with a 4-based map pack.

The levels have been compromised by these decisions and any problems could be fixed, but that takes effort. It's crazy that games like Skater XL and Session take flack but they deliver and give extended support beyond what they should. It's like asking why people weren't hyped for Crash 4, Activision already played the nostalgia card and sold the games people remember the most. This would've done a lot better if it was Underground 1+2 instead to get another demographic of nostalgia

I'm not really hyped but I'll play it day 1.

1+2 was a really comfy experience, playing tony hawk again feels good. I just wish 3+4 was a little more ambitious, it's been 5 years and it looks like its just copy pasted the animations and physics from 1+2 there's nothing but levels to differentiate the two games, and that's a bummer.

Skater XL didn't deliver SHIT, it's a fucking tech demo with zero content. You need mods to make it anywhere close to an actual product.

And Session was released too early, is still missing several aspects and is still buggy as hell. They've only just NOW, after like 3 years, finally started fixing some of these bugs and attempting to get the game to a state it should have been at launch.

Neither of these games even have any sort of vert skating despite being advertised and having vert-centric maps - Skater XL being the worst at this because despite having half pipes, the physics don't work with them and you just kind of slide up and out of them.

Session is certainly more of a product than Skater XL but it's still FAR behind what it was meant to be and neither should be getting any sort of praise until they're actually fucking finished - which is even less likely to happen now with Skate 4 coming out (shitty live service game but it'll suck up all the userbases).
