Why lie? It was an extreme commercial success and plebs ate it up.
Just because a sizeable amount of people did the usual kneejerk new=bad doesn't mean it was hated.
Not to mention, while it's still just mid at best and a simplified version of Oblivion, it's nevertheless a better game in pretty much every regard other than two details of the magic system.

It's simple, I don't know why /v/ pretends to not understand. It's the only high fantasy simulator on the market, it scratches a niche most developers don't even attempt.

Modded also makes it one of the best immersive RPG experiences out there
