nothing really comes in life just like that does it? start learning now and maybe some years from now you will have something cohesive on your hands. just do it, don't think about it too much.

>get into modding, find out doom, quake, mario 64, tomb raider have really good level editors
>get to skip all the boring stuff and go straight to level design
>scripting even let's you add mechanics that were not in the original game (at least I could do that in quake)

don't fall for the 3D meme. even after you learn all of those things it will eventually dawn on you that without artistic ability (understanding design, appeal, proportion and more) then you'll just be making shit
I've spent 3-4 years in 3D and wish I just learned to draw instead. pic related is a selection of my stuff and I dislike all of it

Video games are somewhat unique, if you want to make a song you just play the instruments and sing, if you want to write then you just write, if you want to draw then you just draw. Large productions like video games require a lot of skillsets and unless you're making Pizza Tower it's often impractical or expensive.

but I do draw, its my main hobby
pic related is a study I did last month. My original drawings aren't as good as my studies, but its getting there
And I think everything you have created looks great, it can all be used in games
Anonymous No.714687476
You don't have to learn that stuff until you're creating content
You start with cubes and capsules, and build out your business logic i.e. your gameplay
Then you learn modelling - which isn't hard - and then you build some models to see how your gameplay is shaping up
You don't need to texture anything, or animate or do lighting, that comes later
I wanted to post the low poly revolver model I made, but I can't find it. I made it on a whim one time, with no 3D modelling experience, just blender. Just paste a side-on picture of the thing you want to model, then extrude your starting cube out until it takes the shape. I fucked up lots with the faces and vertices, but it's no big deal, just keep at it until you get it right, it's fine.

>I've spent 3-4 years in 3D and wish I just learned to draw instead.
drawing is much harder to learn so you would still be drawing stick figures
most likely the issue is that you spend very little time practicing and never study or try to improve
if you actually want to get better at art you need to spend several hours every day practicing, grind the things you're bad at, study anatomy, etc

with this attitude you will get nowhere but if you don't want to do it then just don't, it really is about how much you want to achieve a certain goal and not just think or fantasize as how it would feel to make a full on game on your own, it obviously will take much effort and obstacle solving to get it completed to the point where you're satisfied enough

Don't worry about making it look nice. Use placeholder cubes first to test if the idea is fun. No point spending a decade developing art skills if your idea executes shit

It will also motivate you as it comes together

Stop jumping to the end result mentally, because it will never look like what's in your head even if you were the best artist at birth.

Go spend time with friends and family, and when you satisfy those urges, you'll feel inspired and more ideas will occur to you.

If you want more interesting creative output you have to have interesting creative input (experience). So go out and do stuff

Find yourself a visionary. There's a lot of "Idea guys" out there with money to spare and genuinely great concepts and direction. If you have no grand dreams, help someone else accomplish theirs with what you learned.

pretty much. right now I'm working on some vertex colored low poly plant things, and it's shit I could've easily done 3 years ago
I just want stuff that's easy to make but still looks good, which is kind of impossible afaik. I've tried voxels and even making shit entirely out of spheres like Ecstatica, all sorts, none of it works
I just tried making a low poly spiral thing to go around a sphere and I can't figure it out so I'm just gonna drop it and move on like I always do

Probably your best bet is joining a group of people on the internet who draw.
That is what motivated me for a long time, the community I was a part of had weekly art challenges.
Your social motivations then feed into your art motivations.

No...there really isn't. Definitely not "a lot" of them. How would you find out they have genuine great concepts and direction if they never made a game before?
