NOOO! AS A MILLENNIAL LET ME TELL YOU NOOO SWEETY! Only I, an 18 year old playing games for literal children got to experience the gamecube! And don't begin by rattling off about garage sales, flea markets, pre-owned games, everyone knows the milisecond something's out of the cultural zietgeist it disappears forever! You had to buy the gamecube DAY 1 because after that it stopped existing! EVERY ZOOMER WHO SAYS HE HAD A GAMECUBE GROWING UP IS FUCKING LYING!!!!!!!*screams so much his artisanal bowtie explodes*

I am a 1999 zoomer and my console progression was Nintendo 64 into GameCube into Wii. After that I went to Xbox 360 and became a COD person and then when I was 12 I got a PS3 and Dark Souls/ Demons Souls. Now I just play SSBM

Reminder that what matters at least as much as actual birth year is the year the oldest child in the household was born. If someone has a brother 4 years older than them then they would have experienced all the game media he did as if they were four years older, and this can include prior console generations. Some families have age gaps much larger than this so that someone born in 2000 could have grown up with an n64.

not OP but there have been anons here who insist that zoomers were too young to have used the PS2/Gamecube
It doesn't make any sense because it's not like consoles are only around for a few years(the PS1 was still getting games as late as 2004 for example), both those consoles were still being actively supported well into the late 2000s

I don't feel particular nostalgia to the gamecube hardware as a millennial. The only unique thing is the home menu, but it doesn't have much to do. The Wii completely replaced it due to backward compatibility. I think it's odd to purchase it today, and that's the only thing I really question zoomers (or anyone) about.

The PS3 wasn't out yet and I didn't get a 360 because nobody cared about Xbox in Europe at the time

I don't even see how that was possible unless you were in some deeply rural area or in eastern european country. You were barely 6 years old when the 360 came out let alone progressing from the N64. I'm gonna play the part of OPs post and say you can't possibly 'progress' from the n64 when you still a toddler. Progress would be an apt word if you played the n64 from like 2005-2009 and then you got a 360 in 2010 or something.

I had a lot of friends that were barely 10 and they had brothers 19, 25, 30 etc. It was one of those old timey 90s households with a lot of kids and they didn't blow money so he only got all of his brothers stuff.

Why are you so defensive over the fact that plently of zoomers played the Gamecube? I'm assuming you're only a couple years off from being a zoomer yourself and are trying to desperately shed off the possibility that the filthy zoom zoom could have played with *your* precious childhood toys, which is just pathetic.

I was born in 1993, my first real given console was a gameboy color for my 5th birthday in 1998 with pokemon blue and super mario bros deluxe. I got a playstation from my mom in 1999 and didn't get a PS2 till christmas 2001. I got to own a n64, nes/snes etc. I played them at friends houses because they had older sibilings that grew up with those.

How did they manage to fuck it all up so hard when boomers already showed everyone that you don't even need to lift a finger to be successful?

Because the boomers kicked the ladder out from under the millennials at the first opportunity and proceeded to spend the next twenty years mocking them for it.
The millennials are the first generation in modern history to be statistically poorer than their parents, and it's only going to get worse.

My kid is gen alpha and I haven't bought new consoles. Only have my PC which I haven't upgraded since 2016 and my PS2 from when I was kid along with a wii I got in 2012 when she was a baby. I have a 360 too that I've had boxed up for a bit. Only plays old games on the consoles and newer games on PC. Of course I have the wii soft modded and the PS2 using a freemcboot because I'm not paying those crazy prices as a single parent. I'll collect games when I'm way older.

Gamecube is a zoomer console, most Millennials were too old for it at the time of release and moved on to Xbox, PS2, PC and Dreamcast.

I find it funny how insecure younger millenials will hate on zoomers so much despite the fact that they're only a couple years older than the oldest zoomers. It's like they have to try extra hard to differentiate themselves and "fit in" to the older millenials. The sooner you accept the pretty obvious fact that many of your childhood games were shared by zoomers, the sooner you will let go of this insecurity.
I do have to wonder how many times when someone's trying to dogpile on zoomers it's actually just someone who's only a couple years older than them.
