Had the same problem with the first game, took like a year to finally do a full playthrough and I loved every bit of it once it clicked (fuck retards who complained about dying to spikes). B2 is superior in movement and combat and overall fun, but it's more a run of the mill vania, not as original and with a bit more retarded story. It's not really religion edgy. It's inspired by Catholic beliefs and motifs, but nothing feels forced to me. It's a game about the need for suffering that manifested a deity that fulfilled that need in abundance, but also religion officials who became corrupted by power and everything is fucked now. Pretty much your standard JRPG plot.

B1 DLC were free, but weren't really all that good, aside from the Bloodstained crossover part, if you like platforming. B2 is also on sale, but don't bother with the DLC, I don't feel like it's worth it.
